This is totally catastrophic for those along the Gulf of America. I'm not sure what we could compare it to up here. Maybe an earthquake like magnitude 6.5-7.5.

For those folks down there, each inch of snow is equivalent to a richter scale magnitude.

Just started here. Medium sized flakes about 10 feet apart, slowly falling straight down. Temp down 2 degrees last half hour to 35.

The two most violent retail stores in this area that I know of are a Walmart in Long Island and the one in Springfield. This was info from a guy who evaluates real estate for commercial use for firms like Home Depot, Walmart, Target etc. This was Black Friday only, so not sure how they hold up in general.

In ten minutes sky went from totally clear blue to overcast with that snow look/feel. Neighbor just texted me to join an impromptu snow party in his barn. Hope I'm not too crocked when it starts cranking.

My realistic goal is to beat the 6" I got in the overperforming December event here. That would bring me to 21 for the season. That's what I will be rooting for. My total fantasy goal is to be sitting under some good banding and approach 12. But for the next few hours, I'm heading out to get wood, clean the stove, and make sure there's enough tonic for the Bombay.

For the general population, if you forecast 3-6 and end up with 3, most people are happy because they got less snow. If you end up with 7 or 8, they don't really know the difference because 6" affects them the same as 7 or 8, basically. I think 4-7 is a good range in a setup like this- for my back yard, (even though I know I am getting 12).
