  1. It will be so nice to have some snow OTG if it works out. I have relatives coming up from Florida. They are in their 60s- it will be the first time they experienced Christmas outside of Florida. Hoping this works out.
  2. Last year, my brother had a 12 foot rubber Santa come rolling onto his property from a neighbor about 300 yards away. The Santa got impaled by a sharp branch; the branch had snapped earlier in the day. The neighbor came to retrieve it and blamed my brother for not maintaining his trees. There are all types out there.
  3. usually these kinds of slips (called expressive errors or paraphasias in writing/typing) happen when the brain is translating thoughts into language faster than the fingers can keep up, annd relying heavily on muscle memory and autopilot. When typing quickly without full attention, the mind races ahead, leading to omitted words, wrong similar-sounding words, or incomplete ones. A lot of people ask me about this, and happens moreso during acute stress or anxious periods....like when you really want winter to arrive after three years and it still hasn't.
  4. Wind hype not materializing here (yet?). I'm at over 900' on the top of a hill with only farmland/no obstructions. Highest gust at 9 meters was 38mph, under very strong radar returns. When these storms pass and the winds kick from the west/northwest, & inversion breaks down, it is usually much more impressive here in terms of sustained and gusts. (Except for 12/23/22...that was a monster during the main event.)
  5. The only time winds materialized for me, as forecast or greater, was on 12/23/2022- two weeks before my house generator was installed. Lost 3 solid trees, roof shingles/flashing (roof needed to be replaced anyway). Also stupidly left a chair on the back deck which took out 12 spindles on my railing. Power out for three days (right up through Christmas Day), as temperatures had crashed into the single digits. I do not want to experience that again.
  6. Yes, I stand corrected. There was missing info in my data set post-depression from 1929 through 1935.
  7. I only remember the 80s for 3" of snow followed by sleet an slop. Maybe it happened often, though.
  8. At least we don't live in the 1930s. Decadal Average Annual Snowfall for Hartford, CT 1920–1929: ~31.0 inches 1930–1939: ~14.8 inches 1940–1949: ~35.4 inches 1950–1959: ~40.9 inches 1960–1969: ~60.5 inches 1970–1979: ~46.2 inches 1980–1989: ~39.2 inches 1990–1999: ~39.5 inches 2000–2009: ~45.2 inches 2010–2019: ~51.8 inches 2020–2024: ~27.3 inches
  9. That's awesome. I just finished listening to the Captain and Tennille Christmas Special with guest singer Pat Boone. 1.75" here. Just flurries now.
  10. It's nice that EVERYONE is benefitting for once with these little ticks, and there's no robbing Peter to pay Paul scenario.
  11. My mindset is 2" would be solid for me/you. Anything more would be a great bonus.
  12. Heading out to mom's house. Turned the heat on in truck.
  13. 1.26 here. Gauge is crusted over with bird shit. Had to check a neighbor's.
  14. I don't know about the flies. Seems to be heat related for me. My closest neighbor is a dairy farm about a half mile away and the stench of the silage has been overwhelming in 90 degree heat, too. I'm not in Roxbury- I'm just next door in Woodbury/Bethlehem. But I watched that cell from my hill, passing just south of me. The cloud to ground lightning was severe.
  15. I had the swarm yesterday and the day before. Whenever the outdoor temps go over 85-88, they seem to appear. I killed 52, and went through a bottle of Windex cleaning the windows. Got this "outdoor" trap at the hardware store yesterday for $9 and set it up in parlor under a lamp, overnight. By this morning, I had over 40 flies in it, and none flying around.
  16. Beautiful morning. Wall of heavy dense fog at 900'.
  17. Enjoy the sunshine today. Will be the last time we see it for 7 days
  18. Getting totally destroyed with lightning and rain here in Woodbury/Bethlehem. Lots of cloud to ground. Minimal wind here, but 50mph gusts just to west.
  19. Tip's sun angle works great on the south side of structures. But the north side of my house is icy tundra. What makes it worse is that's the side of my property where the drainage occurs, so it's layer upon layer of ice build up on the sloped driveway, with very little melting during the day. I often wonder why people don't consider such things when they design homes (or why people like me buy those homes). Give me one more blizzard (ice-FREE), or send me into May.
  20. Good meltage today. Getting tired of the ice and dirty piles around here. Don't hate me for that, but I'm ready to turn the corner after the last two weeks.
