  1. There were days where there were 15 to 20 thousand people in a 3/4 mile section of beach with 20 lifeguards
  2. DT calling for a major pattern change to cooler and wetter.
  3. I hated trying to watch all the kids when it was crowded. Missing kids took up a lot of our time. Parents don't pay attention. A kid goes in the water, current brings him 20 feet down shore, they go looking for Mom and its a sea of blankets and then they start walking. I actually had 1 Mom tell me it was my fault as I should have been watching. I just shook my head. I worked at a grocery store at night but ate at an Italian restaurant every night, Moms. ( she wasn't Italian but taught by them while Dad was at war)
  4. can I ask why? I mean you are so far inland you would have to chase to see anything
  5. The obvious sign is discoloration of the water. Rips stir up the bottom
  6. You must visit a different ocean than me. Obviously post and pre storm it can get murky but last week I was watching stripers 20 feet below me swimming by. I would love to see a river / lake with 100 feet visibility.
  7. Happens, key is to not panic, overswim. Yes being a beach lifeguard is a whole league different than a pool, lake guard. We averaged about 10 saves a day when the rips were ripping. I had one guy try to drown me as he was in total panic, punched him in the mouth, dove under and grabbed him twisted him around and came up with my arm under his chin to get him in. He was drunk to boot. Quickly escorted out by the staties . 75% of days were lake conditions though. If you are at a beach and its rough stay at knee level and watch them kids like a hawk.
  8. Open ocean salt water with lots of wave action is better than any water park ever conceived, probably cleaner too.
  9. Hope all is well Bob. I have an MRI scheduled for Aug 3rd and have no qualms about it. Glad My Dr finally opened but they have 25% of the staff onsight.
  10. Ct released its state of the forests report. Despite massive oak loss to Gypsies the biomass has grown more than lost. Good news. https://www.ctwoodlands.org/sites/default/files//DRAFT Report from Forests Sub-Group 7.21.20.pdf
  11. @weathafella remember our convo several months ago. Its bad
  12. BOX Better days are ahead, if you're not a fan of the heat wave we've been experiencing that is. As we move into the latter half of the week and weekend the synoptic patter transitions to one dominated by broad mid-level troughing over the northeast. As this happens height falls and cooler upper level temperatures will lead to a gradual "cool down"...quotes included because even so, temperatures will still feel very much summer-like. Some locations like Hartford and portions of eastern MA may even get one more day tacked onto the heatwave streak on Thursday (i.e. could reach 90 F once more), after which things remain around normal or slightly above normal for early August. By the weekend 850 mb temperatures drop as low at 12-14 C. All of this translates to highs in the 80s across the region; biggest drop in temps comes between Thursday and Friday with a cold frontal passage. Good news is dewpoints should be more comfortable during this period.
  13. Yea no kidding 100 plus in those cold tops
  14. I see Cranky doing his usual downplaying of a Hurricane lol, nice drone shot here.
  15. How about free? I like my mid week spot lol. But yea for parking I think its 30 to 40. Heard the state beach was crowded Sunday despite the 25% parking limit. Apparently a ton of people parked in Westerly Shopping plazas and took Uber in. Only 1 good body surfing day so far for me. That was a 5pm visit to an empty Weekapaug beach.
  16. Ask your insurance company if they can place an exemption for you for non formulary medication. If not,Call your Dr and have them change your medication to generic
