Strange happenings on my way back from Sunbury this morning. All the way from Sunbury to Herndon the temp hovered between 43 to 47 degrees. Even at the 147/225 intersection by the 7-11 it was 46. Once I shot the Mandata gap through Hooflander Mountain, the temp shot up to 58 degrees so fast my mirrors fogged up.
Crazy...
I figured that fire melted some of the pavement up there. I guess the tanker truck, which I figure was ground zero for the fire, was reduced to just the frame, wheels, axles, and engine. The entire cab melted and burned up.
Latest info on the wreck. As of right now the northbound lanes are STILL closed. I'll defer to the article about fatalities and injuries, but I heard bad things. What I can say is that the road surface was damaged by the fire, and will likely need to be repaired.

The main problem in the trucking industry is the same one the general public has nowadays. A true lack of common sense.
Add to that the amount of inexperienced drivers due to the mega carriers (Swift, Warner, etc) that are nothing more than CDL mills churning out drivers every three weeks, and it's a recipe for disaster.
My CB is on all the time, but no, most truckers do not use them much anymore. I try to give road reports, or let someone know they have an equipment problem, and all I get is silence.
