Central PA Winter 2022/2023
Voyager replied to Blizzard of 93's topic in Upstate New York/Pennsylvania
I really hope so. I can't believe how persistent this pattern has been and how crappy winter is/was for you guys who love snow. And like I said, I don't post this stuff to rub anything in your faces, because, quite honestly, I wish we were having a record warm winter out here, and I didn't have to deal with snow up there when working. The locals though, are loving this, and while I don't care for the cool, wet pattern we're in, it does help the drought situation. -

This has been a winter to remember for my niece, who lives up in Flagstaff. They will go over 100" for the year with this next system, which sounds like it's going to be a doozy... Snipped from the NWS discussion: Our eyes then turn to the big story of the forecast. A strengthening trough will drop southward through the Great Basin on Tuesday. This trough will have access to plenty of moisture along with an upper jet in excess of 170 mph. This will lead to a miserable Wednesday across northern Arizona. Snow levels will drop fairly quickly and there is potential for several rounds of heavy snow as strong upslope flow and large scale lift will interact with the available moisture. Wind gusts between 40 to 60 mph appear likely at this time which will lead to plenty of blowing snow. Model guidance has been consistent in showing this strong trough moving through and increases confidence that this will be a high impact event. -

The reason the happy hour models pump out good snow storms is because they're drunk. Once they sober up, they go back to a soaking, rainy, cutter... -

Yes it is, but it's got a little elevation to it (2,398 ft) so in a cold storm where the snow levels are low, they can and do get some snow from time to time. -

Don't blame yourself for this mess. It's my fault for moving out west. Wherever I am, there shall the cold be, too...lol -

This was when I got the sleet. That cluster formed a squall line just before got me, and is now moving southeast across all of metro Phoenix. -

It's so weird here right now. There's so much lighting and thunder that it's like a summer monsoon, but it's cold as hell... Must be some good dynamics with this storm system. -

It's not unheard of, but not normal, either. Right now it's storming with a rain/sleet mix, and very windy. Temp dropped from 50 to 39 as soon as it let loose... -

Here we go again...Flagstaff. I post this not to piss you guys off, or boast about this winter pattern, as you all know I dislike it as much as you do. It's just astonishing how relentless it is. Nothing can flip it. I really wish this was for you guys. -

I will never forget that day. Not only for the epicness of a snow squall in May, but also because it was the day I tore my rotator cuff playing a contortionist while trying to break loose a stubborn kitchen faucet connection. -

Meanwhile, it might snow in Phoenix AZ... -
Cold storm incoming next week for the southwest deserts. It may be cold enough for some flakes in the Phoenix metro area. At the very least, snow levels look to be as low as 1,500ft Tuesday night/Wednesday morning. Snip from the NWS Phoenix discussion: Precipitation is also expected Tuesday night along a cold front and it may (15 percent) be cold enough for rain showers to change over to snow showers before tapering off across the lower deserts, including portions of the Phoenix area Wednesday morning.

My Sun City forecast for Tuesday night... Tuesday Night A chance of rain showers before 3am, then a slight chance of rain and snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 35. Breezy, with a west southwest wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30% -

This is absurd... ECMWF Ensemble and GEFS means indicate another anomalous low pressure system will dive southward through the Great Basin and towards the Desert Southwest Tuesday. Latest ECMWF EFIs suggest this system has the potential to produce widespread windy conditions Tuesday and Wednesday. Precipitation is also expected Tuesday night along a cold front and it may (15 percent) be cold enough for rain showers to change over to snow showers before tapering off across the lower deserts, including portions of the Phoenix area Wednesday morning. In the wake of this system, well below normal temperatures are anticipated Wednesday along with the possibility of a widespread freeze event Thursday morning. -

Thanks all, but I'm responding to you Bubbler, because this is my concern. He's not a spring chicken anymore. The window of opportunity is small.
