Interesting. The wildfire smoke last month prompted me to do some research. I wanted to see how unusual it was to have wildfire smoke, and what effects wildfire smoke has on the weather and climate. I came across a peculiar event on September 24, 1950 known as "Black Sunday" or "The Great Smoke Pall of 1950." Here is the article from Hazleton from that event:
Interesting article.

The local fire department put a message out this evening saying the smoke was due to the wildfires & to not call 911 unless the person verifies an active fire. They all must have done this. I know Tamaqua did, as did various departments in the Lehigh Valley.

Glad to see USA flags there! Interesting one of your neighbors had a roof squabble and one went with metal and the other shingle.
Yeah, not everyone agrees on roofs and siding. The pitfalls of living in a half double.

The guys on this forum are getting ready to go find you and bring you back. Your absence from Pa. has turned our climate upside down.
I know it did. Winter, spring, and now summer. I'm almost afraid to come back as there'll probably be a call for a lynching...lol

I'm amazed. Fire danger is high. Talk of dry thunderstorms. Dense smoke from wildfires. These are all normally conditions that are confined to arid west, and they're currently plaguing Pennsylvania.
Who'd have thought my moving to Arizona would change the climate that much?

Great video of the shredded leaves from the hail near Lykens https://www.facebook.com/titus.bergey/videos/1980108219039580
That's incredible. I've never seen a road that completely covered by leaves before.

Several cells about to backdoor the LSV. They are aimed right at the Hershey Highway. Route 422 of course!
I see what you did there...

Wife called me to say she saw a streak of lightning driving home. So I check radar and there are storms around, but....they are moving from northeast to southwest out of the Poconos and into Schuylkill County.
It's definitely not a normal way for storms to move in PA.

Tamaqua may have highs in the 50's and 60's in the near future so do not worry too much. GFS not liking an early full on summer.
Yeah, I know. I thought it'd be kind of funny to continue my rants from winter...lol

93 for the high in Tamaqua. The high here today is supposed to be 92. Now I KNOW something's wrong when it's warmer in JUNE in PA than AZ.
-
Checking my backyard, it's 45 in Tamaqua. 85 today, and 90 tomorrow for them.

Desert nooners here, and it's only 87 degrees. With the humidity at 14% and a nice breeze, it's super pleasant sitting out on the back patio.

The low in Tamaqua this morning was 42. That's the normal December/January low out here in Phoenix.
Ugh...

Hey guys! I know it's been a hot minute since I've been in the forum (Winter did not help the potential this past year....). All that said, I wanted to pass along some great news;
I have accepted an offer to be a new QPF/Winter Forecaster for the Weather Prediction Center in College Park, MD bringing me back to the Mid-Atlantic! I will try not to be a stranger and even try to visit PA more in the future. Plus, I can pass along information that's available to the public for y'all to see and offer my thoughts when storms arise.
Hope everyone is doing well and look forward to coming back home
Congrats, and welcome back home!

I hope I'm not the oldest. Is there perks for being a senior weather enthusiast?? Asking for a friend.
Yup. You get to brag about walking to school, uphill, both ways, in 3 feet of snow...

I'll be 65 in July. My mind says I'm young, my knees say the hell you are. If it basically wasn't the problem with my knees I'd be good.
Yup. Mentally I'm 30. Physically, I'm 70...
