  1. Ice on trees, wires, cars, and anything else not blacktop or concrete. Strange ice event. My sidewalks and street are just wet with no treatment having been applied, neither before or current...
  2. It started as snow here in Tamaqua and lasted about 15 minutes before it flipped to freezing rain...
  3. Going to the winter weather pages of the various office is a lesson in futility. It appears that none of the offices discussed, nor coordinated, with each other before putting out their probabilistic maps. For me (being 5 miles from both the BGM and PHL zones): CTP: 1-2 PHL: 3-4 extrapolated west BGM: 4-6 extrapolated south If I were a betting man, I'd go with CTP's numbers, but the ice potential is all over the place as well with less than a tenth (CTP), but .10 to .25 (PHL) extrapolated.
  4. Waiting for the snow/sleet mess to start. I'm off tomorrow, so I don't care what it does. I'll just sit in my living room and watch it out the window. Side note, I really hope my group has a ticket for me for Sunday, as I scored a charter to the Eagles/Cowboys game and the weather in Philly will be nice!
  5. Surprised the advisories kind of wrap around Schuylkill County. Lehigh, Carbon, and even Luzerne have 'em, but we don't. Wonder if at some point overnight, one gets issued.
  6. For this weekend's rainer, I'm kind of liking the NAM's dryslot idea. In my world, the idea of an all day, moderate soaker, while I drive into, out of, and sit for 8 hours in NYC, is not a particularly pleasant way to spend a Saturday afternoon/evening.
  7. Had about a quarter inch in Tamaqua, a dusting in Hazleton, and about the same until I got past Hamburg on 61, then about a quarter to half inch the rest of the way to Lancaster. Sitting at Sight & Sound Theater right now, and the sun is eliminating whatever had accumulated here.
  8. Being a pro driver, one of the things I hate about winter is salt spray on the roads. Nothing worse than a 1-2 inch minor event that brings every Penndot truck out. It's needed and welcomed as I'd rather drive on a wet road vs an icy one, but the dirty salt spray and having to hit the washers every 5 minutes gets annoying when you spend 6+ hours behind the wheel each day... That being said, I'd gladly take a pass on the post front slop tomorrow and hope for a warning event for next week.
  9. Closest I've ever come to a 100" winter was this one. Another one of these would make most in this sub-forum quite happy...
  10. I can always tell when the models aren't showing anything good. The forum goes silent...
  11. Yup. Got blown all over the place coming down 81 today. Now sitting at 7th and Division Sts in the 'burg until 4:00pm...
  12. Here in Tamaqua as well. Nothing (melted half inch) in town, but tree coated whiteness on the hilltops.
  13. The coating we had earlier this morning from yesterday's sleet and freezing rain and this morning's brief light snow episode is melted. We haven't had anything but flurries here, and the current temp is 36.
  14. If there wasn't the ban, it looks like I could have went in for them. Even over there in NJ on I-80 it's mostly wet. But...one never knows exactly how it'll play out, and if it would have gotten bad, and something happened, we'd be on the hook for it with the "well you shouldn't have been there in the first place". So I guess better safe than sorry...
  15. I suppose they have to find motel rooms either in the city or NWNJ and get picked up tomorrow. I'm sure it does suck, but if there is a commercial ban, we can't legally go in or over to get them. I risk points on my license and a personal fine, and the company risks a fine as well as getting shut down in place until the ban is lifted.
  16. So is Central/East PA the screw zone for today? Quite the hole in the precipitation over here. Side note, New Jersey issued a full commercial vehicle ban so I'm back home and don't have to go to NYC today.
  17. For those whom are interested. I just walked in my front door. Started today at 5:15am. Now I get to go right to bed so I can leave at 7:00am to go to NYC. No sympathy from the boss, either. If there's no ban, I'll likely have to go. Gotta love it. Get home and run right to bed (without supper) so I can be rested enough (barely) to safely run tomorrow...FML...
  18. Currently sitting in the parking lot at MetLife Stadium, but have to get back to Dickson City, Wilkes-Barre, and then Hazleton before going home. Then tomorrow I'm supposed to leave out at 7:15am for 10:15am at the Manhattan Cruise Terminal to pick up returning passengers.
  19. Taking a big bus into Pier 88 Monday for a 10:15am pick-up. Not looking forward to it at all. Especially the ride across I-80 in NJ afterward. It's going to be fun...not.
