  1. What gives with this snow? I woke this morning to light snow/flurries, and they've continued now for about 3 hours.
  2. Where I work, in the owner's mind, drivers and equipment are worth more than a load of water. Add in the lawsuits if you happen to spin out, or in our case, jacknife, and it just isn't worth it to be out.
  3. Where is this round two coming from? Radar looks like crap right now...
  4. Well, at least I'm off work tonight. I called the boss and he said stay home. Day shift drivers all quit early and parked, and he saw no reason to mess around and have issues later with night shift. While I could use the money, I'd rather be safe and not get injured or damage a truck. So far, we got 1 to 2 inches. I didn't bother to measure this one. It had stopped for about 2 hours, but has picked up again. Mostly snow with a few pellets mixed in.
  5. I just woke up after a long day/night yesterday and am kind of "out of it". What can I expect up here in Schuylkill? At first glance, while it's snowing, albeit with small flakes) it just looks like it'll probably just shut off up this way by noon or 1pm. I was really thinking I might get a "snow day", but if it stops by the time my shift starts, I'll definitely be expected to srive tonight.
  6. Yes, we should, but where would be a good "central" location. Harrisburg metro I guess?
  7. Personally, I like the Pivotal Weather snow maps. You can go 10:1 or Kuchera, and they also include (fwiw anyway) ice maps. I find Pivotal's snow maps to be much closer to reality than TT's.
  8. I do believe we went up a degree or two after I posted this last night. It's general Tamaqua climatology in this kind of situation. The ice accrual we had when I went to bed last night was (and still is) negligible this morning. The tree tops on the highest hills surrounding the town appear to have some ice on them, but nothing here on the "valley" floor.
  9. As soon as the heavier rain came in we shot up to 32. Wouldn't surprise me one bit if we don't go up one or two more. I'm kind of doubting the whole half inch ice possibility that CTP had for my area.
  10. Too late. Stuck on the ramp to I-81 north. I was going to Tomhicken for another load, but a multi vehicle wreck shut down the freeway...
  11. I honestly don't know. The tank has some insulation around it under the chrome jacket. I guess it would be a time issue more than anything. If I could park it in our shop, it would probably be ok, but we usually park our loaded dump trailers inside, because the coal does freeze.
  12. Thanks! CTP shows .43" for my area. Hopefully smart minds (boss or receiver) say to park the truck.
  13. Ice storm warning for me now. My entire run from Hazleton to Allentown. It's going to be an interesting night hauling water unless the customer cuts loads, or I call it off myself if it gets bad...
  14. I'm not exactly liking this set-up for today. We have a slight glaze from a bit of light freezing rain, but the bulk of the precipitation seems to come in after sunset tonight. Seeing as I'm a second shift truck driver, conditions will be good enough for me to start my shift, then deteriorate halfway through, and then I might get caught up in a potentially bad situation. I'd rather this come in now, or at noon so I could just legitimately stay home and stay safe...
  15. Agreed. It seems like a lot of the meso's are putting out some crazy ice accretions. Much higher than the NWS has. But, in my experience, the ice is usually far less than even what the NWS forecasts for me. It seems like we almost always get to a 33 surface temp quicker than indicated.
  16. If you look at the ice hazard maps for the entire state (not just the CWA), Carbon County gets .25 to .50" of ice while Schuylkill gets .10 to .20". I guess the ice storm will stop right at the county line, which is how it's depicted on the map...lol
  17. Does anyone know when the last time the ENTIRE state of Texas was under a Winter Storm Warning at the same time?
  18. I've been perusing the NWS sites in the upcoming harder hit areas of OK and TX, and by mid-week, Oklahoma City may have between 18 and 24 inches of snow on the ground. Astonishing...
  19. Without all the drama, yes. There is sometimes good discussion mixed in with the mess...
  20. They did put out a map out of the CWA on FB and/or their website indicating the regions and their boundaries, but I don't know if it's still available or not.
  21. Did you see Houston with a low of 12 after getting snow and sleet?
