  1. Best snowstorm I experienced around BGM / Vestal was Christmas eve 1978. Forecast was a bit of snow then change to rain. Two Football playoff games on TV were more fun we thought. Well...heading out to midnight mass with my father, brother and 80 y.o. grandmother who insisted on going, there was probably 10" on ground and we got stuck in rear wheel drive station wagon at end of our street. Turned around and packed it in. Ended up with 18" XMas morning. Only idea we had was NE wind and the NWS forecast crawler on tv...which was comically running behind actual accumulations. The good old days. Before the internet ruined everything.
  2. BGM must be getting crushed. 0.25 mile viz and dare I say...death band?
  3. That's a classic interior I-88 snowstorm. Reminds me of the Halcyon days of yore when the coast got f*cked repeatedly ever year during most reasonable storms. And that was also the experience of my father...which would take one back into the earlier 1900s. Of course I was living near the coast so it tends to burn it into your skull.
  4. That's not a phrase allowed in these parts. #TrueWeeniesOnly
  5. Maybe 1" here? It not even worth measuring. Brutal, but expected.
  6. Really!? I was banking on the warm nose f*cking over NYC and LI in my contest forecast. I have hope this extends into SNE and that backside snow doesn't ruin it by jacking up totals with fake snow.
  7. SE CT was a horror show for 20 years. Always, always take the under. Even on the rare storm that doesn't mix. Even in the "Blizzard" of Jan 1996. Got 16" in Waterford...about 20% less then everywhere else in CT. March 1993 was a joke.
  8. If a person can't drive somewhere within 10 of the speed limit in light snow then they should stay home and wear a mask and be afraid. Of everything.
  9. Roads were messy in onondaga county but bigger problem were the covid mask wearers driving 30 in a 55 zone... to be safe.
  10. Just back from an illegal holiday party in Syracuse Orange Zone. Nice snowfall, light to moderate, maybe 1-2" on ground. Perfect atmosphere
  11. My SWAG: Buf - 1" Roc - 3" Syr - 3" Bing - 14" Alb - 10"
  12. FYI, 12Z NAM doesn't close off an H700 low over eastern PA until near / just after midnight tonight (06Z). HR18 panel below
  13. mid level warming down near your area of mid-atl is why i went lower with my snowfall estimates for KMDT and KABE in my snowfall contest predictions (still near a foot there). I think that is shown on various NAM and Euro panels. I'm banking on a similar effect and/or just a warming surface on easterly flow to keep NYC>LI>SNE amounts lower also. Though i may have over did it (2-6" generally down there). At least around my place, the dreaded "rice snow" won't be an issue as only 2-3" likely, which is basically a non-event IMBY.
  14. We have had some good ones although one of the downsides of living here is memory gets swamped by the barrage of middling events and lake effect, which sometimes make a prolonged 2 or 3 day storm/event. It all sort of blends together. I'd have to look at my Cocorahs records. Forecast of 2-3" here by NWS is pretty much what I was thinking here a couple days ago. Syracuse proper may squeeze out a few more inches.
  15. After a front...IMBY...For a few hours perhaps multibands. We *Almost never* get anything noteworthy from the lake (again, down here) directly behind CFROPAs. Flow goes westerly down the lake axis most of the time fairly quickly or it dries out fast in an arctic airmass. We might get scraps when the olde broom effect kicks in if a real band gets going up north and a s/w kicks it south off the lake, setting up multi bands. That’s what I’ve seen here usually. Not a fan of relying on LES other than as mood snow.
  16. Won’t matter practically speaking. Goalposts already being moved. Vaccine dispersal won’t enable removal of distancing requirements, mask wearing and other economic restrictions. Nice as a science project but if public health officials are going to continue this policy then my interest in the vaccine becomes almost zero. I’ll get it when it’s available but I do the same with flu shots.
  17. Lake effect? On W or WSW flow...Surely you jest.
  18. ‘Twas the night before Christmas and all through the forum, not a creature was stirring...because their houses were flooded...
  19. I always enjoyed the wxrisk misspellings and grammar murder in his maps, discussions and posts...while sh!tmouthing everyone else as being dumb.
  20. 6.9” using Kuchera...not good, that means 4-5” in reality. Which is about what I’ve been thinking for a high end here.
  21. You have a job waiting for you at virtually any weather forecasting desk...;)
