Upstate NY Banter and General Discussion..

Not attackng you...but "Thought to be..." by who exactly, and with what data? This is a prime example of the Fear Porn pushed by the media and Public Health dolts. Utter rubbish. -

Thinking...Who cares? 99.8% survival rate for the unvaxxed with the original C19. XYZ variants are/were inevitable and have all proved to be no more lethal, though more contagious. Its nigh time to pack away the people who are afraid of the common cold, mild flu, or their own shadows, from having any influence in decisions. They can all stay in masks and bunkers forever. Thats their right. The rest of the sane world needs to move on. -

Agreed. The initial R values for C-19 looked scary coupled with unknown mortality. Fortunately, it's turned out to be manageable. An Ebola variant...we'd all be living out the stuff of SciFi movies. I still suspect some bad actors are working on bioweapons like that. Hell, we may be also. -

I guess some of these BSL-4 Labs might want to rethink ongoing or planned investigations of virus functionality. Not optimistic on that. Society has a long history of proceeding with new technology without fully understanding or appreciating the risks. And yes, there is more than smoke surrounding the NIH's historical funding gain-of-function research, specifically with bat-borne Corona viruses. This was well documented public information before it became another political wedge issue. -

The entire "blame the non-vaxxed" argument is another sign of our collective malfeasance. The Delta variant is now being blamed on the "unvaxxed" by the usual suspects, mainly from the Left and the Public Health community...and parroted by the MSM, who need fake crises to generate revenue. It's a stupid argument that serves as red meat for people of low intellect (read: hyper political types). The Delta variant emerged from India. There was never any chance of vaccinating enough of the globe fast enough (or achieving natural immunity) to prevent variants. By all accounts, Delta is more transmissible but jury is out on mortality. Frankly, for a virus with a 99.8% chance of survival amongst the general population, this all seems utterly absurd. -

Thats why I want Cuomo to stay. He's compromised and unlikely to do anything major to piss off people further. Hochul will probably have us all in WW I gas masks, for our own safety of course. -
Interesting. Sounds like another Owner-extortion trial balloon being floated...is that you Al Davis? Most of you don't follow soccer but a few years ago, one of MLS's premier teams, Columbus Crew, almost moved to Austin. The fan, and community, outrage was so intense that it caused the league and Owner (a d-bag...no surprise there) to change plans. MLS granted an expansion franchise (Austin FC) to the Owner (and hefty expansion fee), and they started playing this year. The Crew were sold to a new Owner, i think a group headed by the Cleveland Browns football team Owner. Columbus won the MLS title again last season and just moved into a brand new stadium, which replaced America's first soccer-only stadium...a trend that has exploded in the US since Columbus built the first US soccer-only venue (for pro soccer).

thank god. My pool temp was down to 73F yesterday morning. A lot of damage was done due to you leaving the area and lack of sizzle here.

And/or "morbidly" obese, per BMI tables...which i suppose could be lumped in with comorbidities. Not a lot of discussion about that in the PC MSM for fear of body shaming people. Which i get...but that's what the data shows. Instead the media focus on low % outcomes and Fear Porn regarding C-19. It's a joke. The MSM and chattering class have lost almost all cred since HeWhoShallNotBeNamed arrived on the scene. It's not good as it has opened Pandoras Box for all sorts of garbage outlets to attain some level of credibility amongst some (both L and R politically), as Establishment Media have largely abandoned their "impartial" role as the 4th Estate (free and open media)...to the wildly unreliable 5th Estate (social media, non-traditional reportage, etc). I won't even mention the absolute farce that so-called Big Tech media's censorship has become. Anyone interested in that, go subscribe to Matt Taibbi and/or Glen Greenwald over on Substack. I do. Some of the best stuff out there. -
Well one things for certain.. @TugHillMattwasn't vacationing in southern Brasil... Meanwhile...Is that slush forming on top of my pool's solar cover?
-
I'm at 9.59" for July as of this a.m. probably fall just shy of 10" as today and Sat look dry. Only picked up 0.35" yday despite the All Day Rain.
-
yeah was thinking same... Raise your hand if you had "all day rain" and coolish temps in the 60s in your forecast for Thursday.
-
Thank the ManyFacedGods you will be back soon. Without the Sizzle my pool temp is dropping hour for hour...

Matt summarized it well. Manlius is overall nicer (pricier and snobbier perhaps), but also near Green Lakes State Park where I like to golf and snowshoe/ hike. Usually, (before Matt moved to Bville and ruined it for everybody, wrecking our local LES), the best spot for LES local to Syracuse is from northern Clay/Cicero/Bville/Brewerton up towards Central Square. Fulton also usually gets quite a bit more but...it's Fulton. Kind of a frumpy town IMO but not bad. Depends on what you like or are used to. Another option are the hills south and southeast of Syr into Madison County. Prettier there, not as close to "stuff" but not too far either. That area does get some decent orographic boost to LES and synoptic snowfall. -
You moving to Springville? Talk about Climate Change...not sure the local snow lovers will enjoy that. Oh look, it's raining again. Weak sauce though.

From KBGM...this is completely unacceptable. Do better: Anomalously cool air will continue to advect into the region ahead of Canadian high pressure Friday evening. A mostly clear sky and very dry air mass will promote radiational cooling as well, especially in sheltered valleys where winds will decouple. This will start the weekend off with near record daily lows in the mid 40s to lower 50s by dawn. Despite a good amount of sun Saturday, the cool air mass will only warm into the upper 60s to mid 70s for highs. Clouds will start to increase in the afternoon, especially in Central New York; associated with warm air advection aloft.

You seem to attract the Sizzle.. Thinking you could rent a condo in TN for Thanksgiving thru March?? ;)
-
That and the crime / homeless problems in parts of Cali, which has already started some flight. They'll be thankful they did when the big one hits and part of Cali slides off into the Pacific as a new island (remember when that was a big fear porn topic years ago? Seems quaint now).
-
You need more sizzle for that pool! I don't see any boiling bubbles.
-
The avg isn't terrible for us but...look like very binary outcomes hinging on NAO state for winter. Ugh.
-
I've had 8.96" of rain in July while KSYR only at 6.40". Summer rainfall can be quite localized but...wondering if the KSYR Sizzle was also evaporating the rainfall in their collection gauge?
-
I recall those days of yore. In HS, it was a thing. I remember reading about it and how this "expert" Dr. Hanson was pushing it. Curiously, a decade later he emerged from under a different rock, did a 180 and was pushing a different climate catastrophe. And here we are.
-
I'd be happier with a Climate Change movie that showed the glass is half full beneficial affects of Climate Change. Namely, the Syracuse Sizzle keeping my pool at 85F in Summer with palm trees and Umbrella drinks around it for landscaping.
-
Lots of bad science also. The flash freeze was a particularly WTF moment for me, having studied classic thermodynamics in collge. Granted, it's all good entertainment! The list of atrocities against Science is long.
-
I'd check the stats on this. I don't have links handy but from what I recall, it's a bit of a more complicated picture than just climate change induced, though that could certainly be a factor. Some of the other wx events going on, like floods in Europe, or even our very rainy July thusfar, do seem more in line with "extreme" wx events increasing in frequency.
