FFS, It's a volunteer organization. I wouldn't go making sweeping condemnations of government or the US wa of life based on this. Seems like its a positive thing. People helping people. If you're relying on govt or big private companies to help you...you're doing it wrong.
The ratio on this guy is to die for. This is why we love Twitter. Has to be fake. The thread has figured out he's either the biggest idiot in the world or making it up. #HurricaneRatio
Entergy said they had a load imbalance after the transmission lines tripped/failed. Too much load, not enough supply. Probably had to load shed and lost the local generators eventually. Will be an interesting recap.
In a case like this there are probably so many distribution lines down and short circuits that might as well turn the thing off. If the Transmission system goes down that just makes restoration a whole lot longer.
They assuredly have a test program. The interesting thing is what their fuel supply status is. This is a real concern for nuclear plants...and facilities like this. In these cases, you will be relying 100% on on-site storage as transport of fuel will likely be interuppted for an extended period. Unless they have gas turbine gens connected to the natural gas pipeline system (which is subject to its own failure modes in events like this).
We are about to find out how prepared they really were. Would hate to see the levees hold but have a different failure mode cause flooding problems.
We don't know exact status . All they stated was that they lost their power supply off the transmission system. I'm guessing that they have substations fed from the High Voltage 115 kv or higher Transmission system. Distribution system at lower voltages probably lost also if the HV and EHV are tripped. It did imply they have a backup source working. How many generators and how much of their pump system that can be supplied...and for how long...no idea.
That is not good. No idea what their backup power requirements are to keep the city drained but my understanding is they need some amount of continuous pumping capability even in normal comditions. If the backup generation fails the pumps don't work. Same thing that bit Fukushima when the tsunami breeched their floodwalls and took out their backup ac power.
In terms of wind, probably. I would hold my breath on flooding though. IIRC, the levee failures took some time to unfold with Katrina. Seemed like the city was going to be basically ok and then...all hell broke loose.
Not a Rump fan but...for what? Feelings hurt? SDNY and SEC sent NOONE to jail following 2008/09 financial crisis. Don't hold your breath. And 0bama was POTUS...
Rump's fault. We know this. Daily Kos and Huffpo, MSNBC proved it. Orange Man bad. We need to focus on what's important though, masks for all. Forever.
I can hardly wait for the cold November followed by Holiday Season Sizzle yet again. Hard to believe that it's Climate Change related (although what isn't ascribed to CC these days?), but it has been common the past several years.
My golf partners commented on this a couple weeks ago while we were waiting on a tee box in Cicero. No idea if the dead trees are all Ash trees but it is noticeable if you take time to notice...
i was going to mention that last week's projections of likely Below Normal for the 6-10 & 8-14 day periods in the NE seem to have gone into the crapper. I realize they are only probabilities but looks like we've been granted a stay of execution. Now let's get that Sizzle!
