  1. I had 0.37" rain yesterday and into this am - as of 8 am, not a large amount but ill-timed for my evening golf league match. Fortunately we got a break and finished last 5 holes without rain. Thusfar today since 8 am, i'd say about 0.20" by eyeballing the rain gauge.
  2. I am calling it the Season of Sizzle! Looking forward to the fall and winter Holidays though: HallowSizzle ThanksfortheSizzle Rosh-a-Sizzle SizzleMas NewSizzle Martin Luther Sizzle Day George Washington's Sizzler The Mother of all Sizzlers Day
  3. you must have some kind of heater. I keep threatening to get one but the past 2-3 summers were good enough without one. Though it would extend the short season, impossible to maintain close to 80 after Labor day around here. If i was in the UHI...maybe. But nights in the country (sort of) just knock temps down too fast in September, even with a solar cover on it 24/7.
  4. I just closed the pool. Was still 72 degrees and swimmable. I got in to mess with the Pillow and it wasn't bad esp on a "sizzly" kind of day here. I'm onboard rooting for the climate change bandwagon! Let's turn CNY into North Carolina weather!
  5. Does the Money difference make the added responsibility worth it? Also, do you want to climb the ladder? Promotions look good on resumes, showing an interest in career progression etc. Are some factors. If it meant a lot more hours and a real headache of a position, I'd weigh that also.
  6. Same at my employer. They are doing a "soft ask" for vax documentation although they are back to mandating masks in-office (restaurant type rules). I'm holding out on supplying it until forced to. Whatever happened to HIPPA regs? Or were those just another political feel-good joke too? The people I commiserate with are the ones that have actually had covid (and can prove it with an anti-body test). There should be no need for them to be vaxxed as evidence grows that this natural immunity is superior to any of the vaccines developed thusfar. Yet, the covid Nazis don't want to hear it as they're not really interested in "the Science." They just use it as a slogan that outs themselves as being as ignorant and infantile as the anti vaxxer loons.
  7. We used to have solid snowfall here locally but not since @TugHillMattarrived, after single handedly destroying the snowmobiling industry during his time on the Tug. Now we just Sizzle Sizzle.
  8. I know covid has affected everyone in different ways but these folks need to put the Bong down once in a while.
  9. As an aside.. NPR (much like the NYT, Wapo) is an interesting and prime example of what has happened to the traditional media in the US. It used to be a reasonably reliable in-depth source of information, left-leaning but I followed them, recognizing their political inclinations, writ large. But since the advent of wokeness and Trump...it's gone full batshit crazy left, fully suscribing to the Marxist progressive Left agenda and the new puritanism - cancel culture. It's become unwatchable and esp on radio - unlistenable, chock-a-block full of class and identity agenda politics. Its as if they want to out-Fox the Fox network news from the other side...and are succeeding. And don't take my word for it...Taibbi and Greenwald are left of Center journalists on Substack that I admire for their overall realism and recognition of how the insane Left is running broken field spiking their football in everybody's face. Just an observation.
  10. I went out bar hopping after each vax shot. Figured, if i'm going to feel like sh*t might as well have some fun. i was fine, if i had any reaction it was more from the alcohol than anything else...
  11. Agreed. Getting the vax is the smart thing to do if you have never actually had covid19....its about as safe as any other vax we get. There have been deaths and bad reactions to it but the % of that occurrence is very very low.
  12. Of course the + snowfall....I choose the Matrix...err Sizzle!
  13. Brief Lake Effect rain showers here and 58 degrees. Pool season may be over. Sadface.
  14. Up to 45 deaths now due to Ida remains in Northeast. I don't think anyone saw this coming.
  15. I'm idling both of my Planet Killers 24/7 to try and put the Sizzle back in SIZZLECUSE. Disgustingly chilly past few days.
  16. Well, regrettably we appear to be past the halcyon days of summer heat and humidity but the Sizzle is just regrouping and will not be denied!
  17. Strongly disagree.
  18. As if what we post here will save lives...
  19. Fuel up tomorrow. After Katrina, prices rose from about $2.30-2.50 to about $3.25 locally. We are already there. It wasn't until the financial crisis in 2008 that prices cratered. That's almost 5 years. I expect $4.00 gas on avg soon. Especially with today's stimmy check fueled inflationary spiral. Petrol up to $4.25-4.50 wouldn't surprise me in a month.
  20. Phillips refinery in Alliance. That's a place I wouldn't want to be for a major hurricane.. there and SE into Plaquimines Parish...ugh.
  21. I've driven around there many times. Its surrounded by brackish swamp with stretches of highway elevated on pylons. Always wondered how/ why they built those interstates. Tough conditions with heat, bugs, humidity...in good conditions.
