Yeah it needs the aspiration. That shield isn't made to be without a fan as it doesn't have passive airflow. If you've never replaced the fan you can get a new one from Scaled Instruments. If you still have the original T/H sensor I'd upgrade that too. You'd just need to tell me your serial number of your station to know if it can use the digital sensor or if it is analog only. Otherwise you'd need a new transmitter (a bit over $100) to be able to use it. Between the fan, T/H, and transmitter you'd now be around $200 so at that point maybe you'd be better off going entirely brand new. I still use the original station and just replace parts as need be.

CON was still dropping 20F in 2hrs in the 90s and 2000s on rad nights. I'll agree that the climo record is littered with site changes and changes in instrumentation that make it difficult to piece meaningful analysis together. Even MWN has had some changes, but they're probably the most consistent across the board going back to the 1930s.

What's the best COOP down there?

Gotta check some of those actual dew obs to make sure it wasn't a bunch of faulty obs. I remember strange dews obs coming up in the summer from (I believe) MHT on TWC that were 32F. I assume it was just an error in the ob coding where bad or missing dew obs got submitted as 0C. But CON radiated like mad even into the 80s and 90s. I don't believe the development issue. I just think the 60s and 70s had more potent cP airmass potential in the warm season.

Steve..why do you keep posting ORH? The site change was like moving downtown Milton up to the top of Blue Hill Obs.

2000 and 2001 were cool, but we haven't pulled 30s at CON since the late 70s...and we had similar instrumentation until ASOS took over in the early to mid 90s.

The ASOS dewpoint and temperature readings are extremely accurate. Heck, even the Davis sensor specs are high end now. People generally have more error from the siting and shielding than the instrumentation itself. The one problem the Sensirion sensors have had is that they tend to get "saturated" with high dews sometimes after a swampazz stretch and they have trouble reaching spec again in lower RH situations. I think the newer SHT85s (not Davis compatible) are better suited for meteorological applications. Maybe Davis will switch over from Sensibus to I2C finally ones of these days.

Maybe. But CON pulled many 30s for lows back in the 70s...kinda need 30s dews to do that. And we can barely get sub 50 lows in July now.

Warmer than the 20th? Maybe up there. Should tickle 90° here. Not a bad morning with 64°. Every night so far has been low to mid 60s so the nights and dews have been tolerable.

I think the polar jet keeps retreating more north as the arctic thaws. We’re getting to the point where we can’t get a legit cold front in here during the climo peak anymore.

That's why I asked about permethrin. I have the powder and liquid on hand here as I use it on my chickens to treat for mites. I know it's deadly for bees and other insects too so I try to be careful where I put it.
