You would think someone with a wind fetish would love the numerous wind storms along the shore. I get a little jealous sometimes of the wind events and tropical threats James can get. Up here it's exciting if I get a 45mph gust in CAA. Then in summer, it's a stagnant < 10mph with dews. Airflow is a good thing. I wouldn't mind being right on the lake though.

I’d call it aggressive moreso than invasive. When I think invasive I think of something that can propagate and spread multiple ways. Running bamboo has aggressive rhizomes. As long as you properly plant it with proper containment methods (bamboo barrier, etc) it can be properly contained. Then you have the clumping bamboos that don’t spread much at all. My bamboo is in my chicken run as I’m trying to give them some form of grass that is representative of their paleolithic history. They all originated from the tropical red jungle fowl. So yeah, you can’t just throw it in the ground and let it go out of control. And up here in zone 5 it takes quite a beating. Also, there is plenty of bamboo that is native to the southern US. That rivercane I just received is all US native and naturally grows near bodies of fresh water in the SE. It is actually important to the wildlife and ecosystem down there since it remains evergreen all winter. Unfortunately people have been wiping it out over the past century. But even out of control bamboo can be controlled. If you keep mowing down the soft new shoots each spring eventually the rhizomes run out of energy to keep putting out new growth. It takes a few years, but eventually it gives up.

Probably...unless you’re referring to japanese knotweed. But it has a lot more difficulty thriving up here given our relatively extreme winters. It’ll die back every winter here whereas it remains evergreen down there. You also need to maintain control of it. Cutting off the new shoots where you don’t want them helps control the spread. My bamboo from last year looks a little rough right now.

Maybe enough UV left by then to produce a freckle or two?

Any of you guys or gals have some shagbark hickories on your property? I’m looking for some seeds with the full green shell on them to start some trees up here.

Nice. If you find any still in their green shell could you save some for me and take a pic? I’d pay for the shipping if you, or anyone else, could send me a bunch of them. I got 3 seedlings last year, but two look like they may not make it. They’re slow growing and have a massive tap root so it’s tough to plant them unless you do it directly from seed or in one of those D60 pots.

Any of you SNE weenies have any shagbark hickories around? I’m looking for some viable seeds to try planting.

This is like the April version of last summer. Wet, damp mank. Warmest April min of all-time yesterday at CON with a late hour 63F which beat the 61F from, the always questionable yore, 4/24/1886. The next 63F in the books is 5/7. So a wee bit ahead of schedule.

Diane will be complaining about the relentless heat ridge May through September.

Does it go away somewhat once the hot water runs for a bit? In my sink spray line there was a terrible sulfur smell that went away once I replaced the water line.

According to the ISU site, this ties the highest dew recorded in April for CON with 65F. There was 1 hour of it in 1987 and 1 hour in 2011. Whether or not those were legit obs, I have no idea.
