  1. 2000 and 2001 were cool, but we haven't pulled 30s at CON since the late 70s...and we had similar instrumentation until ASOS took over in the early to mid 90s.
  2. The ASOS dewpoint and temperature readings are extremely accurate. Heck, even the Davis sensor specs are high end now. People generally have more error from the siting and shielding than the instrumentation itself. The one problem the Sensirion sensors have had is that they tend to get "saturated" with high dews sometimes after a swampazz stretch and they have trouble reaching spec again in lower RH situations. I think the newer SHT85s (not Davis compatible) are better suited for meteorological applications. Maybe Davis will switch over from Sensibus to I2C finally ones of these days.
  3. Maybe. But CON pulled many 30s for lows back in the 70s...kinda need 30s dews to do that. And we can barely get sub 50 lows in July now.
  4. Warmer than the 20th? Maybe up there. Should tickle 90° here. Not a bad morning with 64°. Every night so far has been low to mid 60s so the nights and dews have been tolerable.
  5. I think the polar jet keeps retreating more north as the arctic thaws. We’re getting to the point where we can’t get a legit cold front in here during the climo peak anymore.
  6. We won't see obs like this at ORH for July again in our lifetimes. https://mesonet.agron.iastate.edu/cgi-bin/request/asos.py?station=ORH&data=metar&year1=1965&month1=7&day1=1&year2=1965&month2=8&day2=1&tz=Etc%2FUTC&format=onlycomma&latlon=no&missing=M&trace=T&direct=no&report_type=2
  7. That's why I asked about permethrin. I have the powder and liquid on hand here as I use it on my chickens to treat for mites. I know it's deadly for bees and other insects too so I try to be careful where I put it. If I'm not directly treating a bird's vent, I put it in their dustbathing bins. https://web.extension.illinois.edu/cfiv/homeowners/040925.html
  8. My only problem with the BDL number is that historically HFD has averaged warmer Julys than them in the ASOS era. Now, low and behold, we have BDL pulling off a warmer month than them. Maybe it's legit, but things that make you go hmmm...
  9. Although if we plotted JJAS I’m confident 2018 would be #1.
  10. Summer 05 averaged “dewier” than last summer, but 2018 had more hours with >70F dews.
  11. Debacle was probably the wrong term to describe 07 and 08. I just remember the week of the 4th in 07 being cold.
  12. DC summers and Labrador winters. Scientifically it makes sense.
  13. Nothing like last year, but we have a few days to potentially add to this.
  14. I know that wasn’t there when I planted the tree a month or two ago. How quickly can they reach those mammoth sizes?
  15. Thanks for the advice all. Wish we could get some 40s in here...looks like torch mins for a few days.
  16. What do they do if you plug the hole? Just dig out?
  17. Muggy day, but nothing insane. Typical summer heat.
  18. I have some liquid permethrin, but I've read that will take a couple of minutes to kill them...sounds like a recipe for getting stung while waiting for them to die. My sister is allergic to yellowjacket stings, but I've never been stung. I'm not too excited to jump in there.
  19. It's right next to my newly planted tulip tree. I really don't want to kill the tree.
