Yeah...agree. But I'm just saying if the water table is near the surface then the tree is probably going to root deep and laterally. Like you said, it's those drought periods like we were in where the deeper soil gets dry and the minimal watering only wets the top few inches and the plant only roots laterally seeking the moisture. Given how well I retain moisture I'm probably good for the rest of the summer considering my northerly slope and the declining sun angle. Gene's hill faces S so he always has to fight those dry periods.

I will say I cut down a dying tree a couple years ago and took a peek at the rings. I could easily pick out those wet years from the mid 2000s through the early 2010s. The biggest growth was what I assumed to be 2009 which was obviously a cool sog fest through spring and into July. So maybe as long as there is moisture deep that’s all that matters and the roots will spread every which way anyway? A few of those rings were like 3x wider than others (looked like the thin ones were late 90s). But yeah, my chestnut trees don’t seem to like “wet feet” and they’re showing some signs of rot based on the new growth wilting up. The low spots in the back have standing water after the additional 0.29” yesterday.

That sucker looks broken. My guess is they left it in the ground a few too many winters and the freeze-thaws tore the wire. Mine was stuck around 200 or not reading at all and when I pulled it out this spring it was damaged. Anyway, I replaced it. I’ve had half the rain Kev has had this month and I’m reading 5cb this morning.

Pulling off a couple of tenths from that Hill-Franklin line of training cells. Sun is peeking out now, but it's down to a raw 61F.

Doing a good job of dodging everything so far…that next line of cells will be close, but maybe the outflow from this one kills it.

Frequent thunder just to my west. Some of these cells are popping up and collapsing within 10-15 mins.

Is that water hazard usually there? lol

My AQI went from 135 to 21 in 2hrs after the rain washed it out of the air.

Yeah…0.50” and counting. Wasn’t trying to imply no rain with the Epsteinmoji…just that we missed the meat and potatoes of the line. Looks like my parents got hit pretty hard in S. Hooksett too.

Yeah I was a little too far south of that bowing segment and it left me in the 7-10. Still getting some decent rain…should finish with around a half inch.
