  1. I believe FEW is only 1-2 octas, SCT is 3-4, BKN is 5-7, and OVC is 8. So the ceilometer is scanning the sky in every direction/elev angle looking for clouds. So you could have an OVC layer overhead and north of the station with the south side clear and it may get reported as BKN even though there's no drop in insolation. You could also be FEW/SCT and have one Cu sitting right in front of the sun too. Then there's the CLR debacle where many ASOS ceilometers only report up to 12kft so in advance of systems you can get half a day's worth of CLR obs despite an OVC altostratus layer at 15kft and then suddenly it lowers enough and you go from CLR to OVC120 (12kft).
  2. FEW rarely even blocks the sun...it was probably a tiny cumulus on the horizon. But they were right back down to 36C in the next 5min ob too so with the 5min running mean it was just more likely to be 98F. They'll probably pull off a 101F before all is said and done though. Pretty impressive with 70+ dews even if BOS is running a hair too warm.
  3. More likely 98°, but they’ll get there eventually.
  4. Man Ryan has 98.4° on his Davis.
  5. I don't live in MHT and consider it SNE. I've been running behind yesterday since mid morning...just a lot more clouds. It's starting to clear out now though and the temp is responding so maybe it'll end up similar to yesterday in the end. But my point was that the epicenter for the heat yesterday was S ME/SE NH and today is further south into E MA.
  6. Definitely more SNE centric today with the heat. Today doesn't feel as bad as yest up here.
  7. You got me curious so I looked it up, but it looks legit.
  8. Excessive dews keeping it down a bit? A lot of the older 100+ days seemed to require lower dews mixing down. Now we do 98/75 like it's nbd. When we actually get the right setup with dry air (July 2011) we shatter records. We'll eventually get another prime setup day like the PAC NW just had and we'll see numerous 104-106F in the hot spots.
  9. That day/night before the 100+ day was really oppressive. I actually thought it felt worse than the mixed out low 100s the next day.
  10. 86/77 at ASH We’re going to get some 90 at 9s this morning.
  11. I feel like we're going to get one of Tip's Sonoran releases this summer...a 100-102F deal.
  12. Holy crap is it nasty already. MHT 83
  13. Quillayute (UIL airport) had never recorded 100F before today and then they managed 110F this afternoon.
  14. Can’t believe CNN hasn’t been hitting this heat harder online. This is right up their alley.
