  1. There’s a few factors…amounts of certain snow crystals in the pack (feathery dendrites vs more compact crystals), strength of wind (drifting), relative humidity (sublimation), weight of snow in the pack (the weight of the snow upon itself), etc. I’m going to assume he had more water equivalent than you which explains his higher total. So the rates of compaction will probably be similar assuming you both had similar percentages of large dendritic growth. However he’ll still have more in the very near term… at least until those 30s creep in.
  2. Yeah it wasn’t perfect…was more referring to E NH Vs the Berks. What was your w.e. there?
  3. Hopefully it all blows out of my driveway so I don’t need to clean it up.
  4. Please remember this when he has 9” and a Tolland ob in the PNS is like 6.5”.
  5. My niece got it for the 2nd time today. 1st time was nbd, but this time she has the aches and shortness of breath. She just turned 16. I’ve been wearing a mask when out again and still managed to get sick. I’m considering the flu shot yearly now. I tend to be very prone to it and get sky high fevers when I do. I guess my immune system is one of those cytokine storm types.
  6. Nope. Gonna take something to bring the fever and headache down. Breathe right nasal strips have been a savior.
  7. I’ve gotten 2 PCR tests in the past 6 months…both negative. I would’ve gone today, but didn’t want to go out in the weather. Maybe tomorrow if I get worse.
  8. 102.7…that was quick. Good thing i’m vaxxed I guess. I’m in good shape and eat healthy too…must have some bad covid genetics.
  9. Some coughing and chest pain now…fever back up to 101. I assume this is COVID. Sucks.
  10. That was actually well modeled. Most models had more here than in the Berks.
  11. Kuchie maps have a lot of issues up here because they’re based on sfc temps and assume higher ratios the colder and colder your 2m temp gets. It’s really a lazy first estimate on snow totals. We know how you can be frigid at the surface in a SWFE, yet it’s pushing freezing at 750mb and your snow ends up 9:1. Or Scoot today creeped up near 32° for a bit, but being under that band he was getting massive growth with that lift in the DGZ so he’s pulling off good ratios despite relatively warm temps.
  12. The first step will be natural compaction. I always find my snow tends to want to compact toward 10:1 over a few days. Then possible 30s and liquid precip will knock it down to an extent. Tuesday will try to sublimate some, but that won’t do much to it. But you’ll still have a tough base after this weekend.
  13. Nice round numbers on this one. 4.0”/0.30” So even up here we managed 13:1.
  14. There’s a couple of Southington cocorahs obs this morning. One was 7.0”/0.45” at 7am and another was 8.5” at 8am (no w.e.). Models tend to underestimate the QPF under mesobands (my frequent experience).
  15. What do you have? I just went out to shovel a path to the girls and I felt like death after attempting that. I’m at 3.9”.
  16. Trust me I know about meso bands. lol The measuring method just looks suspect. That’s all I’m saying.
  17. Not supposed to measure and clear every hour. This looks suspicious because of the water equiv on an hourly basis (unless this person is using a heated rain gauge). A heated rain tipper will underestimate the w.e. as well. Just throwing that out there.
  18. Maybe…just noticed the last hour of local obs it ramped up to 1/4-1/2sm.
  19. Nah I’ve been awake. Chickens don’t care if you’re sick. Maybe a little over an inch here. Just guessing based on where we were an hour ago.
  20. If it’s any consolation the 6-12” will compact in half in a few days.
  21. Nice one guys. That’s a nice base to have in advance of that cold shot. 2” would be a win here. -SN right now.
