  1. Still no 30s here. Min of 40.1F...lots of clouds and wind overnight.
  2. Pretty meh season locally. It's as if the leaves change 1 day and the next day they drop. The oaks have clumps of color amongst the green and they're following the same trajectory as the maples...color and then drop within a few days. So there's a lot of leaf drop now with some sprinkled color and a lot of green oaks. It's been a fairly narrow window for decent color.
  3. Only 43.9 here too with some clouds and a breeze. Southbury Hollow?
  4. I can’t find the 61-90 data right now but the growing season for CON used to be late May into mid September. Heck look at the difference the last 10 years made at CON… Last 32°, First 32°, growing season 1981-2010: May 19, Sep 24, 127 days 1991-2020: May 8, Oct 3, 146 days Of course that’s an average so we still get freezes near June and freezes in mid September like last year. I’m not trying to bust your balls, but 4/15 is early no matter how you slice it. Maybe you get away with it one year, but there’s times where we can pull off a freeze that time of year even with CAA mixing.
  5. Yeah the growing season at CON has been increasing for every new normal period. Someone is hitting the bloody marys early today.
  6. 4/15 isn’t close to climo even where you are. Heck we can get highs below freezing in mid April…nm lows.
  7. That’s on you if you’re planting seedlings into the ground without cold protection in NH in mid to late April. You probably would’ve really hated living here in the 60s, 70s, and 80s when we were getting frosts at CON at the end of August and the middle of June with 30s sprinkled through July.
  8. 71/62 Pretty breezy ahead of the front. Looks like it passes through around 2z so this evening is the last hurrah. We sad.
  9. Only a tenth here. Kinda wanted a little more as it has been dry.
  10. Life is hard. We’re here for you if/when you ever need to talk.
  11. Winter is grueling up here too. I get wedged in most warmups while some of you guys in SNE get brief breaks and melt and rebuild. it’s just a long period of cold, wet, darkness. I think I’d off myself if we ever had another little ice age.
  12. I grew up loving extreme weather, but as I add other hobbies to my interests the extremes conflict with them. So I’m turning into a bit of a bitch like Epstein. Chickens and plants don’t like too much of anything.
  13. Thanks everyone...just a really tough night of sadness and guilt. Life is fragile. Hopefully everyone is healthy and doing well.
  14. Hopefully it happens so we can cancel winter. I'm already over it and I haven't even gotten into the 30s yet. It's sad to think it'll be 6 months until we even get to mid April.
  15. Accidentally killed one of my favorite chickens tonight. She somehow broke her top beak on 10/4 and we've been trying to hand feed her since until she got the hang of eating differently. Tonight we put a little too much wet feed down her and it went down her wind pipe and suffocated her. She's the only one of my chickens that would jump on my lap daily to be pet and she was the top of the pecking order. I feel absolutely sick about it right now. This is a tragic hobby sometimes. RIP Rose
  16. Our bedroom heats up into the mid 70s during the day, but by 8-9pm it cools off enough to close the windows. It's a different world in Torchton though. AC has been out since early Sep and I don't think we've used the window fans since then either. It's way AN, but mostly on the mins and the low 70s during the day have been perfect with just the right amount of humidity.
  17. And it doesn't cool off at night with the windows open?
  18. My hydrangeas still have flowers too. Crystal clear and 57°. Just your typical mid October morning. Back to a little bit of reality come Sunday…unfortunately.
  19. Kinda need a DSD this time of year to really get the deeper mixing. 26 years ago today we had a pretty epic torch. 87F at CON...but wasn't even a record. Lots of mid/upper 80s to 90F records at CON through 10/20 and then by 11/1 it's down to 80F.
  20. If it doesn’t happen on a hilltop at 990’ in Tolland it doesn’t happen anywhere.
