  1. 71 / 67 SW wind. Partly cloudy with some low clouds and fog around. A bit drier with isolated storms and showers today and widely scattered and isolated later Thu (6/29) and Fri (6/30). Smoke may spoil the sunnier day Thu but Friday looks like the nicest day since last Mon (6/19). Holiday weekend warm, humid and scattered storms Low / mid 80s perhaps upper 80s where/when its most sunny for length. storms focus on sun pm and mon pm. Fourth of July looks to be much like today widely scattered storms perhaps some lingering morning sun. Look to continue warm, humid and storms chances through the middle of the holiday week. Beyond there - Western Atlantic Ridge positions expanded west and this will be key in drying and heating up in the 7/9 and beyond or continued hung up boundary. Hazy, Warm , Humid for now.

  3. Thu (6/29) and Fri (6/30) continue to appear to be dry and partly / mostly sunny days mid / upper 80s. Weakness and hung up front / boundary clinging by the east coast into the first week of Jul so continued storm chances. If the Western Atlantic Ridge can position more west and hook with the TX ridge more we'll dry out and heat up quickly. Right now its acting a a barrier wall holding up the front.
  4. Models continue a warm / humid n=unsettled pattern into Sat / Sun but much like the past weekend there should be periods of sun and more scattered storms . Sun night into Monday looks more focused storms/showers. Later the third and Independence day looks to dry out with more isolated storms. Sat: Scattered storms : low - mid 80s Sun (7/2): scattered storms / overnight widespread storms: low 80s Mon (7/3) early storms : mid 80s Tue (7/4) : Isolated storms : mid 80 / upper 80s.
  5. 68 / 66 and 1.10 in the bucket the last 24 hours here. Clouds , humid and storms circling around the area. Today looks to be the more cloudier / cooler day of the week. Wed much clouds and pokes of sun with more storms. Perhaps a break or more isolated storms only on Thu (6/29) and Fri (6/30) so with sun enough chance to warm up. Holiday weekend Sat (7/1) and Sun (7/2) scattered storms but should be periods of sun / low to mid 80s. Not a complete washout but definitely storms abound. Mon (7/3) warm / humid and scattered storms. Independence day still looks warm / sunnry and isolated storms. Beyond there warm / humid pattern continues. When we get enough clearing the heat form the TX/Southern Plains ridge will heat it up. Have to watch the western atlantic ridge expansion west.

  8. 72 / 71 and partly cloudy. Tropics pattern continues into day 4. More storms and soakers between breaks in clouds which if any are for any length of time could push temps into the mid/ upper 80s. More of the same tomorrow perhaps not as humid but plenty of storms through Wed (6/28). Perhaps a break or mainly isolated storms Thu (6/29) and Fri (6/30) and with enough sun a warm mid/upper 80s but i think clouds will be a plnety and nearby debris from storms to the north and east. Holiday weekend. The Rockies / TX / S Plains ridge will push pieces of the intense heat up and east. Sat (7/1) / Sun (7/2) still humid, warm and storm potential. By Mon the third the flow is more westerly / NW'rly and its isolated rain chances and heating to upper 80s and the fourth could looks summery near 90 and dry. Beyond there overall warm, humid and continued storm chances. Pieces of the TX heat are nearby or just south so with enough clearing warm to hot days. Western Atlantic Ridge pushes into the Southeast/FL and we'll have to watch if it expands west into week 2. https://cdn.star.nesdis.noaa.gov/GOES16/ABI/GIFS/GOES16-NE-GEOCOLOR-600x600.gif

  12. Holiday weekend flow comes around more S Westerly and while storm chances remain it will be less widespread and higher heat potential as indications of the stronger heat nearby with >18c 850s near by. 7/1 - 7/4 looks warm and storm chances 7/1-7/2 with a drier summer(ier) 7/3 and July fourth. Sat 7/1 : low / mid 80s scattered storms Sun 7/2: Mid 80s scattered storms Mon 7/3 : mid / upper 80s scattered / isolated storms Tue 7/4 : upper 80s / low 90s
  13. 78 / 68 here. Sun out. The tropical style pattern continues and when its sunny its very warm (mid / upper 80s) and when storms go they will be slow moving soakers. Mon (6/26) - Tue (6/27) look to feature the highest rain / storm concentration. Wed could be similar to today with Thu (6/29) and Fri (6/30) more frequent storms. Overall still think the area will get >2 inches of rain with spots to >5 inches under the heaviest rains. Overall warm / steamy (humid dewpoints upper 60s - low 70s). Rockies / TX /OK Ridge firing rounds of strong heat up and out. Holiday weekend flow comes around more S Westerly and while storm chances remain it will be less widespread and higher heat potential as indications of the stonger heat nearby with >18c 850s near by. 7/1 - 7/4 looks warm and storm chances 7/1-7/2 with a drier summer(ier) 7/3 and July fourth. Western Atlantic ridge on the move west to open July first pushing into the Southeast, then more Bermuda postion potentially which could setup a more sustained warm pattern but look for storms and rain chances / humidity to linger Hazy maybe hot (when sunny) and humid. 6/24

  19. 71/70 tropics arrives. Cloudy drizzle although some breaks and clearing pushing into S/C NJ northward. 0.41in the bucket so far. Peristent southerly flow with trough into the GL and Ohio Valley Sat (6/24) - Fri (6/30). TX/ Southern plains and rockies ridge pushing heats into the south. Humid, mostly cloudy although some breaks in the clouds will remind some of what the sun looks like. Warm overall and nea normal due mainly to night time lows and by way of high humidity. Rain should push >2 inches for the area with spots getting >5 inches where slow moving storms develop. Where and when the sun comes out for length should push the temps into the mid upper 80s and outside chance of 90. Beyond there and Holiday July 4th weekend. Looks warmer with continued storms chances. Pieces of the heat from the TX/Southern plains will eject east and the goes more westerly by the 2nd and should allow for the area to heat up for the holiday. Overall looking warm and still potentially stormy. Heights elevated into the east coast. Western Atlantic ridge building west.
  20. Records: Highs: EWR: 97 (1965) NYC: 96 (1888) LGA: 95 (1965) Lows: EWR: 51 (1992) NYC: 49 (1918) LGA: 53 (1940) Historical: 1902 - The temperature at Volcano Springs, CA, soared to 129 degrees to set a June record for the U.S. (Sandra and TI Richard Sanders) 1944 - Four tornadoes killed 153 persons and caused five million dollars damage in Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Maryland. Showers and thunderstorms in the eastern U.S. deluged New Castle County, DE, with 2.5 inches of rain in one hour. (The National Weather Summary)
  21. Agree on rain performing or exceeding - usual exceeds on this type of prolonged southerly flow. A few days in and flood watches will be the discussion with slow moving storms caught alof t in stagnant flow. Think the 2nd or 3rd could be the hotter days as it looks now but models have been a bit poor beyond day 4/5. Tendency is to have that weakness into the east until we get the W. atl Ridge to back in.
  22. 66 / 62 the progression from the So Cal Marine desert to the tropics (Florida style) has occurred. Fri - Fri (6/30) overall southerly flow, humid, lots of clouds warm and plenty of showers/storms some of which will be slow moving soakers. Overall would expect >2 inches for most and some spots >5 inches in the 7 day period. Warm 850s >16c on a southerly flow will warm quickly where and when there is sun temps could soar to the upper 80s perhaps a stray 90. Focus on storms Sat (6/24) evening , Mon (6/26) evening and Wed (6/28). Beyond there going into the holiday weekend Southern Rockies Plains and TX robust ridge releases pieces of the stronger heat and look a see a day to two of that here as flow goes more Westerly. Still looks to remain humid, and potential stormy. Will have to refine the fourth of July forecast. Western Atlantic ridge moving west the first week. overall warm, humid and rain (storms) potential.
  23. Records: Highs: EWR: 101 (1988) NYC: 98 (1988) LGA: 99 (1988) Lows: EWR: 48 (1940) LGA: 53 (1992) NYC: 52 (1940) historical: 1928: A farmer near Greensburg, KS looked up into the heart of a tornado. He described its walls as "rotating clouds lit with constant flashes of lightning and a strong gassy odor with a screaming, hissing sound." 1947 - Twelve inches of rain fell in forty-two minutes at Holt, MO, establishing a world rainfall record. That record was tied on January 24-25, 1956, at the Kilauea Sugar Plantation in Hawaii, as their state record was established with 38 inches of rain in 24 hours. (The Weather Channel) 1972 - Hurricane Agnes deluged Pennsylvania and New York State with torrential rains resulting in the most costly flood in U.S. history. In the Middle Susquehanna Valley of Pennsylvania, 24 hour rainfall amounts were generally 8 to 12 inches, with up to 19 inches in extreme southwestern Schuylkill County. At Wilkes-Barre, PA, the dike was breached destroying much of the town. Flooding resulted in 117 deaths and 3.1 billion dollars damage. (David Ludlum) 1981 - A young woman from Lubbock, TX, was struck by lightning. The bolt of lightning struck just above her right shoulder near her neck, and passed right to left through her body, tearing her warm-ups, causing her tennis shoes to explode, and lifting her two feet into the air. (The Weather Channel) 1987 - Thunderstorms in southern Texas produced wind gusts to 116 mph near Quemado. Thunderstorms in New York State produced 5.01 inches of rain in 24 hours at Buffalo, an all-time record for that location, and produced an inch of rain at Bath, PA. The temperature at Fairbanks AK soared to 92 degrees, establishing a record for the date. (The National Weather Summary) (Storm Data) 1988 - Sixty-five cities in twenty-four states reported record high temperatures for the date. Tucson AZ reported an all-time record high of 114 degrees, surpassing the previous record of 112 degrees established a day earlier. Highs of 98 degrees at Pittsburgh, PA, and 100 degrees at Baltimore, MD, tied records for the month of June. (The National Weather Summary) 1989 - Record cold temperatures were reported in the High Plains Region. Rapid City, SD, reported a record low of 39 degrees, in sharp contrast to their record high of 102 degrees two days earlier, on the 20th. (The National Weather Summary) 2003: A hailstone measuring 7.0 inches in diameter with a circumference of 18.75 inches and weighing 1.33 pounds falls in Aurora, Nebraska. The National Weather Service reports this is the second largest hailstone ever documented in the U.S. by weight, and the largest by size at that time. The world's largest hailstone NOW was produced from storms in South Dakota; 8" in diameter and 1.9375 lbs. on July 23, 2010.
  24. 61 / 54 and mostly cloudy ENE wind - raw some drizzle in spots. Bulk of the steady rain has shifted east and while today is still well below normal, cool and raw it wont nearly be as wet as initially modeled. The transition from a so Cal marine influenced desert pattern to a Florida style humid / warm and stormy will be completed tomorrow. 6/23 - 6/30 southerly flow - warm, humid and very active showers and storms (some slow moving soakers). Should manage >2 inches area wide and spots exceed 5 inches where the slow drenchers materialize / inland). When and where the sun comes out it warms up quickly and if we can manage any duration of sunshine some warm / hotter heat indices. 850s of >16C will keep it warm overall by way of higher low/minimums but some warmer days with sun are possible Thu (6/29). Rain chances look highest Sat night into Sun (storms) and then again on Mon (6/26). Beyond there into the Holiday weekend warm flow continues should see some of the TX/Southern plains heat bleed east and between transient troughs, as they lift out and the flow goes westerly/N'wrly a much warm - hot progression on a day o two. The Western Atlantics Ridge or a piece / southeast ridge looks to come back to life in this neck of the woods into the longer range D 10 or so. https://cdn.star.nesdis.noaa.gov/GOES16/ABI/GIFS/GOES16-NE-GEOCOLOR-600x600.gif
