Next 10 1-2 90 days 6/27 - 7/3 (weekend caveat with enogh sun but looks cloudy or stomry) 6/27,28, 7/1,7/2 : looks like low humidity gems 29/30: Ridge a bit south - humid, storms 7/3 - looks to warm back up as currently forecasted for the holiday weekend.

77 / 64 Some clouds in the area. Should be enough sun to push the warmer spots to the upper 90s, otherwise low - mid 90s. Storms later this pm, evening and into the overnight. Some heavy rain potential. We'll see if storms are sout into our area for a widespread 1-2 inches. Dries out and cooler Thu (6/27) / Fri (6/28) low 80s. The weekend surge of heat is accompanied by clouds and showers with a tropical southerly flow on Saturday keeping it in the 80s, should there be any prolonged break of clouds and enough sun, some places could touch 90. Sunday slowly cleas out mostly upper 80s / low 90s. Cooler/drier Jul 1-2 before warmer/ more humid - hot arrived by the 3rd. It was the year of the famous dry spring in which fields and villages burned. (David Ludlum) 1925 - The mercury hit 101 degrees at Portland, OR, their earliest 100 degree reading of record. (Sandra and TI Richard Sanders) 1953 - The temperature at Anchorage soared to 86 degrees, their hottest reading of record. At that time, a strong upper-level trough led to its acceleration and the hurricane deepened rapidly on its final approach to the Texas/Louisiana border. Audrey became the strongest hurricane on record for June upon landfall, as it reached category four strength. Its acceleration was unanticipated, and despite hurricane warnings in place, 418 people perished in the storm, mainly across southwest Louisiana. 1987 - Afternoon highs of 97 degrees at Miami, FL, 107 degrees at Medford, OR, and 111 degrees at Redding CA were new records for the date. It was the third of six straight days of record heat for Miami. Thunderstorms produced wind gusts to 70 mph at Austin, and gusts to 75 mph at Tulsa OK. 83 / 54 and back to the hotter side of the flow the next 48 hours. Near or low 90s today pending on clouds coming through PA. Surge of stronger heat arrives tomorrow with >20c 850 MB temps nd it will be a race with storms/showers and clouds. We'll see where the storms/rain tracks, Euro is north with the focus. Cooler Thu/Fri before a return to hotter flow this weekend. Storms and clouds may halt the heat this weekend but near / low 90s on Sun couldtrend hotter with next surge of heat. Flow goes more NW'ly to open next month before more ridging and heat by the 3rd and overall warm - hot beyond. Placement of ridge could enhance storms potential with the heat.

(David Ludlum) 1924 - Six men at a rock quarry south of Winston-Salem, NC, sought shelter from a thunderstorm. The structure chosen contained a quantity of dynamite. Lightning struck a near-by tree causing the dynamite to explode. The men were killed instantly. (The Weather Channel) 1951 - Twelve inches of hail broke windows and roofs, and dented automobiles, causing more than fourteen million dollars damage. The storm plowed 200 miles from Kingmand County KS into Missouri, with the Wichita area hardest hit. It was the most disastrous hailstorm of record for the state of Kansas. 78 / 63 clouds splitting the region in half. Cooler today and the heatwave breaks as the trough and front bring 18 hours of a reprieve from the heat. Clouds and scattered Ridge pushes and bumps surge of heat north on Tue (6/25) and Wed (6/26). >20c 850 MB temps by Wed, only clouds and showers/storms will blunt upper 90s to 100. A 2 day cool down Thu (6/27) - Fri (6/28) before next surge of heat this weekend Sat (6/29) - Sun (6/30). Beyond there overall warmer - hot and humid after a day or two of a brief cooldown for the holiday weekend as ridging looks to maintain into the east.

Records: Highs: EWR: 99 (2024) NYC: 96 (1888) LGA: 95 (1965) JFK: 94 (2010) Lows: EWR: 51 (1992) NYC: 40 (1918) LGA: 53 (1940) JFK: 52 (1992) Historical: 1902 - The temperature at Volcano Springs, CA, soared to 129 degrees to set a June record for the U.S. (Sandra and TI Richard Sanders) 1944 - Four tornadoes killed 153 persons and caused five million dollars damage in Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Maryland. The tornadoes formed during the evening and moved southeast along parallel paths flattening everything in their way. The town of Shinnston WV was leveled, and was left with the majority of the causalities. Until that time it was believed that damaging tornadoes did not travel across mountainous terrain. (David Ludlum) 1944: The deadliest and strongest tornado in the state of West Virginia occurred on this day. The Shinnston Tornado that ravaged a path of destruction from Shinnston to Cheat Mountain, then on to Maryland and ending in Pennsylvania in the Allegheny Mountains, is the only twister to produce F4 damage in West Virginia. This tornado killed 103 people.
