Temperature spike to 45.5 just before 1pm and has dropped back to 39 in the 45 minutes since. Lots of melting since my previous post. Not sure what is the reason for the temperature swings.
-
That is pretty crazy. We got barely above freezing here (max 32.4) between 1:15 and 2:45 am, then it fell back below freezing and bottomed at 27 between 7 and 7:30am. Uncharacteristically, the town didn't plow or salt here and some roads were treacherous/black ice for a while this morning. There hasn't been much melting here yet, although the temperature is up to 43. Just for a wee bit of exercise, I went and shoveled the driveway about 45 minutes ago. Could have easily waited for it to melt this afternoon.

Last burst coming through. Temp up to 31.5⁰. The p-type algorithms for radar have had it all wrong tonight locally. A few minutes ago

Yeah...crazier than usual tonight. For some reason the wunderground radar shows it's raining here, but it's 28.9⁰ and snowing hard as of 10:25pm.

I grew up on the North shore. When we lived in WB it was an eye opener visiting Mom and Dad during the winter.

I lived for several years in West Babylon after we got married and commuted to the North shore. Many disappointments in WB.

Almost moderate snow here, but it's a proper snowfall at this point. Temp is essentially unchanged over the past few hours, but has actually dropped a couple of tenths recently to 28.6 (dp 26). Edit 9:56pm Moderate snow now. Righteous.

Fingers crossed that we stay on the cold side of the the coastal front. All of the short range models have it making its way into the sound, but not to the CT coast. They wouldn't need to be off by more than a few miles to change our forecast significantly.

Up to 28.8/24 and snowing a little better plus radar is building nicely over the North shore. Could be one of those North shore specials, but on the other hand the short range models have been aceing it here this winter, even when they seem strange immediately prior to the event. In short, hope springs eternal. Side note, it's a nice change of pace (after a more seasonable January than recent years) that every flake of snow that has fallen today is still lying unmelted in the street.

February 1972, 6" to heavy rain that washed most of it away to 6" more on the backside in Syosset. I was a wee one at the time, but it must have been a range of emotions. Not ironically, I mostly remember the snowy parts...and great sledding the next day.

December 2000 we had about 30 minutes of light rain before flipping back to a half inch of bonus snow. Totalled just over 11". Closer to 15" all snow just a few miles west of us.

Probably earthquake and a flood too. Thanks for the heads up. Get it sold before brush fire season.

Here was Tuesday morning's squall on Route 28 near Phoenicia, NY: https://photos.app.goo.gl/eBJrGqRtnRPunUAN6

I'd have to check my records, but I think we were over 20" for a week.

Snow depth peaked about 26" 15" fell in that storm on top of consolidated 12" pack.

Side note; not shown on these maps, but has anyone noticed how warm the winter has been in eastern Europe (i.e., Russia, Ukraine, Belarus)? NYC has mostly been colder than Moscow lately.
