  1. Call it a messy storm in a really good way. A mix of everything should indeed result in varying accumulation amounts spread across days of action. bring it!
  2. This is a great map for all of us up north! I can feel the heartbeats lowering and stress levels shifting from "snow making" to "customer experience" across the mountains.
  3. Quick half inch this evening, this is really good stuff with the deep winter feel of coldness and snow and northerly winds.
  4. A solid dusting overnight with morning temperatures below 10 for the 4th day in a row. Ice forming on the banks of the Androscoggin river and most tributaries are locking up.
  5. Weekend laps are short but short-lived on the man-made snow with limited terrain, as the underlying frozen surface shows up by mid-morning. Still great to get out there, but I'm definitely ready to show gratitude for mother nature slapping down some natural snow sooner than later.
  6. It is nice to see this thread turn to talking about "best places" while the current conditions get awfully wet and weak! Hoping for a long duration of cold-enough nights so that magical man made can expand terrain across the region. In reference to Sugarloaf, been there three times, with the hope of scoring the true potential but just haven't had it come together, but it sure is an awesome mountain.
  7. Watched some of the Killington World Cup on television last night and definitely a proud moment for the event to have happened with tons of fans everywhere and a course that looked to be in great condition. Did a quiver of laps today at Wildcat. With the snow they made yesterday + the grooming last night + the snow/mist/rain/dreary conditions this morning that resulted in 5 people on the slopes, the conditions were the best so far this season. The single top to bottom run with packed powder and generally soft snow throughout, and the lower section that had been a bit rough in past days was resolved presumably by the snowmaking and grooming. It is raining and 37 at my place, so even if it is wet on the mountain, it is a cold rain and hopefully soaks into the base and then freezes for some foundational ice as opposed to melt off.
  8. Sounds good to me. Shoot me a message anytime you are heading to Wildcat, it is just under 30 minutes from my place in Berlin and to cruise towards Bartlett afterwards is definitely in the mix of things to do.
  9. Wildcat had the quad running at full speed which made it nice and quick to the top, and then there was one run to the bottom comprised of three trails. Top half of mountain felt like winter snow, the lower half they were blowing snow and actually it felt pretty good except. After a half dozen runs I called it quits, but it sure feels nice when the sun starts to hit the snow. They were blowing snow on other trails, but it will take much more effort and hopefully some help from mother nature to open up more of the mountain. Like BWT said, good to have the season upon us, but it is fragile that any warm rain will eat away at this base, and hopefully in the next one to three weeks we can get some natural snow. Still fun nonetheless with barely anyone on the slopes!
  10. 1,300 feet right near the border of Berlin/Milan near the ski jump!
  11. Cold Rain around 37, think it wet-bulbed to 35 for a brief period of time, but now slowing rising
  12. Agreed. I've enjoyed the conditions for the past few days (small crowds, good snow, minimal terrain open) and definitely will need to keep an eye on the post storm events for recovery. Just hoping that temperatures can eventually get cool enough for resuming snowmaking.
  13. Winds increasing with snow mixed within it all, temperatures just at freezing, mother nature is ripping through Coos County this evening!
  14. Opening day at Wildcat was really fun! The quad zipped up the mountain and the trail down has very nice snow for the top 2/3 and was a bit hard on the lower 1/3, but that softened up as the sun hit it in the mid-morning. Crowds were minor, good vibe overall and the complementary hot chocolate was a nice feature too. Onward to the 22/23 ski season!
  15. The main base camp on Monday and Tuesday was at the Flume area parking lot with the NH main trailer vehicle, but the SAR teams were being deployed from various locations and also being dropped at the peaks via the helicopter. One report by a SAR team was that it was so intense up top, they had to crawl on hands and knees for a period of time, and there were some drifts near chest high deep of snow. From what I've gathered from the various outlets, she had on trail running shoes, at least 2 layers on her lower body and a camelbak for water, but didn't have winter experience. My suspicion is that she likely didn't have the 10 essentials. Apparently on Tuesday end of day they found personal belongings in the areas between the headwater of Lafayette brook and the summit, and made that the area for search today, one of the officers reported that she could of literally been blown off the mountain. I was driving through Jefferson/Randolph on Sunday between 5pm and 6pm and the snow squall that went through was pretty intense, she was supposed to be at her pickup spot by 4pm that day. Very sad and tragic, the only good thing is there is closure for the family that she was found.
  16. At 5 p.m. on Monday the pemigewasset valley search team reported that she had not been found with upwards of 60 people on the ground today. A Blackhawk made many pivots on their flight into the area of her hike and there was a civil air patrol plane that did loops on the other side near Cannon. https://www.facebook.com/search/top?q=pemigewasset valley search Her mother supposedly dropped her off at 5 a.m. on Sunday and saw her walk up the trail and her friend was supposed to pick her up at 4 p.m. on Sunday. Too many unknowns and what-ifs, hoping she is not on the mountain and OK somewhere.
  17. Oh, I was referring to the question of whether it was the start of daily operations, within the upcoming weather (guidance all over the place) and if a warm solution comes to fruition, it could wreck the man-made, so figure they are going to get the opening day as a milestone accomplishment. --- In terms of Vail and how they are investing in Wildcat, one can only imagine that somewhere on the 5-15 year plan is a major upgrade in the Cat. For now, I'm just going to enjoy it for what it is, and perhaps venture to Attitash once in a while. Onward!
  18. Not sure. I think with the effort put into the snow making, it only makes sense for them to get an opening date out of the way and tucked into their records before the questionable antics of the upcoming system. Looks like it is one top to bottom run (3 trails connected) and they are running the quad.
  19. This is Cherry Pond in Jefferson NH, picture taken around 2pm on 11/20. I would think with the cold last night and today, the entire pond is likely frozen over. In nearby news from the evening walk, it is cool to see the ice formations already underway on the creeks and tributaries to the Androscoggin River.
  20. Thursday 9 a.m. opening day https://www.facebook.com/wildcatmountain/videos/1830721943929348 bring it on!
  21. Definitely a good taste of winter today up in Coos County, hiking near 2,000 feet and the winds were strong and biting. Just after sunset, experienced a solid band of snow while driving through Jefferson/Randolph just north of the Presidential Range and then turning into Gorham up to Berlin and the night sky was clear with many stars. Let's see the single digits tomorrow morning!
  22. Evening stroll in town and the sound of air conditioners and outside parties!
  23. Coldest morning of the year at 23 at 7 a.m. Low sun angle blazing through the front windows does a pretty good job to warm up the home.
  24. Enjoying the wind direction shift and lowering temperatures, and captured a short-lived rainbow. This is looking NNW towards Milan in New Hampshire. Usually I see rainbows after the rain, this was on the approach.
