  1. 36.9 and light rain. Thought I might look out back and see a glaze this morning, but my mountains are obscured by the low ceiling. Doubt there's any ice there, though.
  2. 2.68 on this rain event. Winds starting to kick up late morning behind the front. Wind has kinda always creeped me out.
  3. 17.6 for the low here in PG, and that was at 7:35a.
  4. 18.3 for a low here in the PG at 7:05a.
  5. I kept looking at the radar last night and that's exactly what happened. There was a no snow band between the mountains and foothills/ western piedmont that ran WSW to ENE. Glad you got to see some snow. Wonder if the South Mountains got any extra enhancement?
  6. I saw zero flakeage. Not even a flurry. Like wncsnow says, as the crow flies, Mt. Mitchell is just a dozen or so miles away. It's like a snow stopper.
  7. The cat woke me up earlier than is my general custom, but I'm glad he did since a nice little snow shower was rolling around 7a. Hopefully a harbinger for winter weather this season.
  8. Glad to hear that damage was minimal. I'm in the fortunate camp as well. Only "princess problems" with utilities.
  9. Services restored late Monday, only to lose internet again noon yesterday. Cell service has kicked back up to 5G, which helps for online matters. Otherwise OK here. Higher ground (and good drainage) can have its advantages. Immediately west of me, Old Fort took it on the chin badly. Further east, Morganton took a big lick. Marion certainly can't compare to those two, or certainly Swannanoa and Asheville. I'll never look at things the same again. This event has irrevocably changed the area I've lived in all my life (save time away at Wake Forest). Changes physical and emotional. But we're strong, aren't we? Lots of humanity evident in these divisive times. Hard lessons learned. We'll recover, but it won't be overnight; that's for sure.
  10. Thinking about you, man. Hope you get everything squared away.
  11. Well, it's actually west and south of me in Greenlee...between US70 and I40...about 4 miles from the house here, I reckon. For years my front yard mulch has come from Columbia Carolina. Largely poplar bark.
  12. I can only imagine what the North Fork of the French Broad will look like at Boxcar Falls.
  13. I'm about 6 miles east of downtown Old Fort. I picked up 2.61 inches since midnight. Total for the event for me 8.23 inches.
  14. (Possible) Tornado reported in Shingle Hollow (Rutherford Co.) late this afternoon as well.
  15. It's good to be back. I've missed the camaraderie here. Hard to beat the weather insight. I'll be around more over the next several months. It'll be interesting to see what the wind field is like over the next 48 hours.
  16. Over 4 inches for the event so far 3.21 today, ands that's almost doubled from 90 minutes ago...not any Forrest Gump sideways rain yet, but close during some gusts.
  17. "The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco."
  18. High of 74 here today in PG. Think I'll get out next week and swing some streamers for the wily trout.
