  1. The conifers are still holding onto their snow days after the storm. Definitely an unexpected landscape for days in a row the 2nd week of November
  2. Records falling like dominoes at Detroit the last 3 days November 11th: Record snowfall of 8.5" ***largest calendar day snowfall on record for November*** November 11/12th: Largest November snowstorm on record, 9.2" November 12th: Record low maximum of 25F November 12th: Record low of 13F November 12th: Record snow depth of 9" November 13th: Record low of 7F ***first single digit low in November since 9F on Nov 21, 1969*** ***coldest Nov temp since 7F on Nov 24, 1950*** ***there has not been a colder Nov temp since 4F on Nov 30, 1929, or 90 years ago!*** November 13th: The 7F is the earliest to hit single digits on record (old record Nov 16, 1933) November 13th: Record snow depth of 7"
  3. I took the day off yesterday and enjoyed the snow all day like a kid. The scenes were remarkable, a gorgeous winter wonderland, which included some odd scenes with some trees still clinging to leaves (they have also dropped like fish flies onto the snowblanket with the cold lol). The storm was unprecedented for this time of year, and seeing so many peoples cars get stuck, walking through deep snow, feeling the mid-winter air....it was almost surreal to remember that its BEFORE MID NOVEMBER! Now to recap the stats: The 9.2" at Detroit officially broke the following records: ~Largest November snowstorm on record...the big storms overwhelmingly happen Dec-Mar 1.) 9.2" - Nov 11/12, 2019 2.) 9.0" - Nov 15/16, 1932 3.) 6.6" - Nov 27/28, 1891 4.) 6.4" - Nov 15/16, 1925 5.) 6.3" - Nov 25/26, 1950 ~Largest calendar day November snowfall on record 1.) 8.5" - Nov 11, 2019 2.) 7.2" - Nov 16, 1932 3.) 6.2" - Nov 15, 1925 4.) 6.0" - Nov 21, 2015 5.) 5.6" - Nov 27, 1977 ~Greatest Observation Time Snow Depth on record for November 1.) 9" - Nov 12, 2019 2.) 8" - Nov 16, 1932 3.) 7" - Nov 13, 2019 4.) 7" - Nov 28, 1950 5.) 7" - Nov 29, 1950 The storm was then followed by record smashing cold, but I will post that in the November thread.
  4. No, but the writing was on the wall very early and that it should have been a warning. However all that said, the total snow fall far exceeded expectations and even QPF. My snow melted down to 0.89" of liquid common no model had that much.
  5. That is insane. I just took a walk in the deep snow with a full moon overhead and the air so crisp and cold it crunched, looked, and sounded like midwinter, not November 12th.
  6. Finished with 8.8" here. An amazing storm. The 9.2" at Detroit sets an all-time record for November (beating 9.0 on Nov 15/16, 1932), and to think its not yet mid-month! Walking around in the deep snow and biting cold and looking at the calendar is surreal. Some trees still straggling with leaves and they are dropping like flies, and while i normally hate when debris of any kind mars fresh snow, its a reminder its still technically Fall.
  7. It gentlly snowed all night. My storm total was 8.8". The official final total at DTW was 9.2", making this the largest November snowstorm on record. The old record was 9.0" on November 15/6, 1932 but amazingly outside of the 1932 and 2019 storms, the next largest November snowstorm? 6.6" November 28,1891! There were then quite a few in the 6 to 6.5" range, but it's just so early in the season most of the big storms happen December through March. Records go back 140 years for snow, that's how unprecedented a storm like this is this early in the season. U if M Ann Arbor reported a storm total of 11.0"!
  8. What an amazing snowstorm for November 11th. It is absolutely gorgeous outside. I was at 7" and counting about 20 minutes ago, through 7:00 p.m. DTW was at 7.6", which as stebo said, the all time November snowstorm record is 9.0", but this is actually already the 2nd largest November snowstorm on record. DTX NWS at 9.0"
  9. What an impressive snowstorm! Looks like 3" already and the heaviest hasnt even begun
  10. DTX upped forecast for metro Detroit to 4-6" but honestly I can see 6-8".
  11. Youre welcome. Another thing, this will be the only storm that is followed by such bitter cold. The other ones seemed to be more typical November type wetter snows.
  12. The top 10 biggest snowstorms in Detroit history (1880) on or before November 12th are: 6.2" Nov 8/9, 1921 6.0" Nov 2/3, 1966 5.7" Nov 6/7, 1951 4.6" Nov 10/11, 1898 4.1" Nov 11, 1984 3.9" Nov 10/11, 1933 3.6" Nov 9/10, 1913 3.4" Nov 11, 1892 3.1" Nov 11/12, 1959 3.0" Nov 9/19, 1894 So as you can see most of these are way back in the day. There have only been 5 snowfalls of 4" or greater this early, and chronologically they go 1984, 1966, 1951, 1921, 1898.
  13. Getting very excited for tomorrow. This type of snowstorm and record cold is something I cannot recall seeing before mid November!
  14. Whoever has access to such detailed euro maps, any expansion to show Michigan would be much appreciated.
  15. Drove through a heavy band of snow this morning. 0.2" at my house and DTW but up to an inch in a few spots.
  16. More flurries here today. Trace #5 since Oct 31...lets get something measurable now!
  17. Will be interesting to see if we can get any measurable snow here. We got on the board with our 1st trace Halloween evening then continued with a trace each of the 1st 3 days of November.
  18. Wow, nice. Ill allow it since its still late October, but hand that magnet back over lol!
  19. Thanks! The colors are so nice this year. We usually have pretty vibrant autumns, but last year was a bit dull. This year did not disappoint but fall is always SO short! At least in terms of natures amazing color display. That's why going out Sunday with an absolute must for me. It was actually a very cloudy day but it cleared around 4p.m. and there is nothing like the late day light of autumn when colors are at their peak.
  20. Hey now, dont sell your winter short long before it starts lol. You may see more severe winter weather than that. However that said, whats going on in the Rockies is VERY impressive. They are used to October and May snows, as well as January days of 70F, but this is something else. With all the subpar winters Denver has had lately, this might be one of the severest stretches of winter weather theyve had in some time.
  21. Took a walk during the late afternoon right before sundown on Sunday to enjoy the peak color. It was gorgeous outside. Autumn in all its glory. This weekend will likely be spent raking.
  22. Definitely looks like an early dose of Winter. But we had quite bc a few snowfalls last November before December turned very mild and then Winter roared back in January. Hopefully this Christmas season has lots of snow to go with it!
  23. True. I had 96.2" and Detroit 94.9" in 13-14. But it wasnt JUST the snow, it was the severity of the winter. The brutal cold, winds, and nonstop blowing snow which is why i have a hard time seeing that winter matched for overall severity. In shear terms of snowfall, especially with it seemingly increasing in the lakes, id say its definitely possible.
