  1. This looks like it will be a healthy deformation band tmrw. Sometimes deformation bands really fluff up, though temps look to be just below freezing. Anyone know what flake size/ratios to expect?
  2. Looks good but that dam Southeast trend needs to stop lol. I honestly cannot believe what we have witnessed with these models the last few days
  3. I'm liking how we reeled this one in, but the trends are ridiculous lol
  4. Exactly. 6-10" snowfalls dramatically increased the past decade over the area, but the 12"+ ones remain on the elusive side. Last 1 at DTW was 16.7" on Feb 1/2, 2015
  5. All depends on your definition of big. I would agree with bo, 12 to 15"+ is where we start talking big dog. If 6" or more of snow falls out of the storm, it would be Detroit third storm of 6"+ this season. Of course with how horrible the models have been, now counting on anything till I wake up Thursday morning. Nov 11/12- 9.2" Jan 18- 6.8" Feb 25/26- ?
  6. Comparing that 12z GFS yesterday to the 12z today is hilarious. Liking the trends here in Southeast Michigan.
  7. Not sure if this has ever been posted, but check out this amazing link. Really shows you that haves and have nots of every Winter since 1950. Also shows you how crappy winters were in the 1950s, how great they were the 2nd half of the 1970s, and how unprecedented 2014 and 15 were. You can slow it down using the speed button on YouTube.
  8. This was a disappointingly and somewhat unexpected mild Winter. However, your exaggerations aside (ie "no" cold air, Christmas "summer", etc), none of these nuances are newly invented this year. They come with crappy winters. Unfortunately every Winter cannot be great, that is just how things have always worked. Whether you like to admit it or not, this region has been quite lucky the past 20 years. I am just hoping for a much colder Winter next year.
  9. The uk has been just as consistent as the gfs...the irony is the two most consistent models are the northern and southern outlier.
  10. Joking aside our sub has made out better than pretty much every other sub on this board, other than the West which forum is not really active. Just not a good winter for the eastern half of the country. They happen.
  11. Ukie has been consistent with being the farthest south. Not that that makes it right lol.
  12. This Winter it seems as if all the models have been unreliable and certainly inconsistent
  13. If we could just get it to nudge more south we would be good. But can't say im confident in that happening. Getting 3 or more storms of 6"+ in one season for Detroit is unusual. Its only happened 15 times in the previous 139 years. How hilarious it would be if it happens in such a frustrating Winter.
  14. Though I know you were referencing lack of snow in Indiana, I have to lament on two things. We lost our snowcover several days ago...as seen by the satellite in se mi. I think this was the first time this season there was such an annoying close cutoff here. Also...unusual to not see the thick overcast shrouding the Lakes.
  15. Definitely not as widespread as other models show. Only for a very small area would that be the biggest storm of this Winter.
  16. Anywhere between 4-7" of snow fell while i was up in munising. Just awesome scenes
  17. It should have been the title of every event this winter lol
  18. Oh wow. I remember when Madison was the snow magnet in 2006-2008. Weve eclipsed 13" several times since 2011, though not this year (peak 9").
  19. I'm at 9.2" on the month I think and peak obs time depth has been 3". January peak depth was 6", December peak depth 1", November peak depth 9" lol.
  20. Enjoying TON of snow in Munising, on the Lake Superior shoreline. But this is actually quite a mild Winter up here for them as well, as I always say it's all relative lol.
  21. Good luck and best wishes. Will miss your posting! Pop in once in a while will you?
