The March Long Range Discussion Thread, Winter's Last Stand
pasnownut replied to stormtracker's topic in Mid Atlantic
Good Lord. I'll take the over figuratively and literally. Have to agree that it would be crazy to see anything remotely close to this verify. With enough cold floating around, and some luck w/ timing, it is the season for big events. -
my guess...earth axis and where we sit on it. edit - googled to check my guess and i think im onto something "Earth's axis is tilted 23.5 degrees from the plane of its orbit around the sun. But this tilt changes. During a cycle that averages about 40,000 years, the tilt of the axis varies between 22.1 and 24.5 degrees.".

Looks like Junior G wants to keep hope alive for Friday. Still think that with any earlier dig that something could happen would be NE Pa and points NE. IT is close enough to watch, even if its a close miss. 500's show it, but gotta say that I'm about ready to hang my snow hat up for the season, as i've got alot to do and tracking takes away from that time.

thx blizz. Looking over overnights, it looks like the coastal idea is still on life support for our region. Most models have it, but well SE for us. Not sure I'm gonna say "right where we want it" but its got a lot of work to do and the progressive theme of the year argues against the phasing for our region. Fv3 shows the late phase and gives us a reminder that Boston is a good place for snow. Most other models keep it a fishy storm and trough 500 flow just keeps it east.

Happens in every forum, and unfortunately i don't think they realize how juvenile it makes them look. This isn't a therapy board its a weather board...good or bad. I really like coming "down" here, but all of the debbies in here, really muck up a good group, and why i backed away w while ago. Bob, Mitch, usedtobe, HM, .....i can go on and on. I'm sure some left for other reasons, but imagine most "left" cause of all the BS clutter crybaby crap. Unfortunately those that are guilty, are probably giddy at all of the attention, instead of realizing they are being asshats. By and large I'm done for the winter, and look forward to the break, but look forward to being back next year. i hope some come back next winter with better attitudes. -
Yeah, i agree. Snowfall maps would change rather notably if we can slow the flow a bit. I do not have individual access like you, but if this has a chance, we need to start seeing some juicy solutions start to enter the foray of possibilities in the next day or so.....or forgettaboutit. GEPS/GEFS show a rather progressive look, and need some work for sure, but I can see a way for something to pop as trough lifts out and we Spring.

The lawyer dude mitchnik in the MA forum left last year, and Bob Chill may be on the ropes from this year. It is tough looking at everything every 6 hours for days on end "in search of" and it really does wear on ones soul. I was really really burnt last season....and while better this year, its still been a tough one for my area as we were close on many, but really missed the good ones. I did get enough to head into hibernation in a little better shape this year.

@sauss06 Eskimo Joe. He now stays in the MA forum......and gets trolled pretty hard there. If you strive at being a good met/hobbyist, you cant let your bias show through like he does. Really takes away from credibility, and in this sport, credibility is really something that is hard to obtain. Just look at the MA (and other forums)as to how there is a meteo pecking order of sorts. Im not here to be "the guy". I'm just here to have fun n share what I know, and learn along the way. Edit. Just read the multiple post suggesting Joe and finding it wasn’t him. Lol.

Yeah there were a few that really rained on the snow parade. Always made me wonder whey they even came here? I hate heat and humidity, so coming here in the middle of it is just a kick in the jax for me (no offense to the warmies). I check in to let ya'll know I'm chillin, but it aint my gig, so let those who love it, have it. It is a weather forum, not just a snow forum, so I guess its fair to poo poo, but when folks just say i hate this or I hate that, and add little to the discussion on a weather board, and do it OVER AND OVER.....AND OVER....your gonna get trolled. Warmies seem to foget how BIG their window is....and how small ours is. Thats my biggest gripe. I will say that last couple of years, I was glad for our horrid winter to be over as i wasted much of my life searchin for snow, with little ROI. This year I will miss it more as we did actually have a dog in the hunt on multiple occasions, and a decent amount of chatter regarding it....no matter the result. That sure is a fun part of this hobby for me. I learned a little more, and had fun along the way. Good stuff.
