  1. We will see what happens tonight on my hill. The surrounding areas have to go into the 20's for me to get a frost. Picked lots of Concord Grapes today. Keeps the house smelling great. GFS has basically no more precipitation for the rest of the month. Euro does the same but has a system coming in around Sept 29th. If that can be delayed wonder if some stations in New England might record their driest month ever?
  2. Balmy 34.1F plants get to live another day. Lite the wood stove this morning.
  3. Welcome. Nice that we are adding more NNE posters.
  4. Subtropical Storm Alpha has formed. Heading to Portugal. So the Gulf storm would be Beta. Gets confusing with the Greek Alphabet because after Beta it's Gamma then Delta.
  5. It seems we are naming more semi tropical systems than we use to. Is that why we are running so far into the Greek alphabet. If we took out all the semi tropical systems what letter would we be at?
  6. I had .05" ish. The Euro snuffed this out a couple days ago. Thin strip of showers through C New England.
  7. .04" rain last night. First since Sept 2's .25
  8. I'm wondering how fast the Gulf surface waters warm back up after the passage of tropical cyclone like Sally. Does a couple of days of bright sun do much in September? Gulf waters must be pretty well turned up. Anyone knowledgeable in this area?
  9. Seems like the cold front has gone through here. Temp down from 66F to 60.7F. Heavily overcast and with the smoke layer above the clouds it is pretty dark out there. Models have been spitting out a thin line of precip tonight right through my area. About .25" or so. I'll believe it when i see it.
  10. Euro also develops the Gulf system. Has it drifting around coming west to about Brownsville and then recurves ENE and comes ashore in Louisiana as a 986mb storm.
  11. Landfall just east of extreme tip of Eastern Maine but gives New England some rain, Worcester east. Outer Cape gets a bit more than .50" on this run
  12. Just for shit and giggles the Euro is closer. Waiting for the run to finish but at hour 132 it's raining in all of Eastern New England
  13. Also it's 2020. Expect the unexpected, that must be factored in
  14. 12Z Euro. Let's end this drought in a big way. I guess just got to slow down Teddy a bit and strengthen the high to the northeast of us. Have the storm come in from a SE to NW direction over the Gulf Stream.
  15. 12Z GFS through the end of the run Oct 2 Total qpf
  16. Smoke is now half way across the Atlantic. Paulette seems to be sweeping it northeastward. Still smoke coming across the Continental US. Wonder if there is enough smoke that will circle the poleward regions to influence temperatures to a slight degree. Don't know if it would be a net gain or departure. Smoke lowers daytime temps as the sun is now lowering in angle but must increase nightime temperatures too? Okay, gotta ask. What is with all the Dave Epstein jokes? Many years ago I was invited to go to the movies with some friends and he was there. I'll reserve judgement on the experience but needless to say I remember it all these years later.
  17. Probably most of you don't remember when Mt St Helens erupted. I was living in Boston at the time. The smoke cloud didn't last too long over New England but for a few hours it was very noticeable and people were talking about it.
  18. Yes, skies are 100% clear in the Northeast. This is all smoke.
  19. 41F for a low. Colder lows coming for the weekend but I stay toasty up on the hill. Widespread frosts/freezes to the coast have to happen before I frost up here. The settlers of 1795 sure knew where to site houses to extent growing seasons on both ends.
  20. Yes, satellite pictures show we have clear skies except a few Cu. Visibility is good, all the smoke is well aloft.
  21. 2005 was the only other year. Wilma was the last in the alphabet before we went to Alpha. Made it all the way to Zeta in Greek alphabet
  22. Thank you Alex. The new camera is great. I can even see the rain drops splashing in the water. Now I can watch the snow line on Mt Washington and the leaves turn. It will happen fast now that your going to be having nightly frosts. You had a great summer. Seemed like less upslope clouds with endless sunshine with super warm temperatures. I'll give you a call soon to catchup on things https://video.nest.com/live/S9cztU6Ans
  23. It's Mid September so it's time for a NNE cold season thread. Let's hope for lots of storms! To start the thread off I'll ask a question. How is COVID going to affect the ski industry? Could be tough with lots of people breathing on each other in lodges. On the other hand this was a busy tourist season (at least in the Lakes Region of NH) so maybe people are more apt to stay local in New England and not travel to warmer climates?? Thoughts?
