  1. As far as the media and the general population goes this one is really going under the radar so to speak. So many hurricane watches for NO this season and so much coverage of Gulf Storms. Like Covid, people kind of just let their guard down. Many people are just saying (as of last night) it's just a Cat 1. However... A strengthening storm always seems to over achieve. Katrina was weakening and slid east of NO. NO metro 1.2 million people! This storm is hauling ass unlike many earlier season tropical systems. It's not going to lose much punch The eyewall could go right over NO. Highest destructive wind is just in the eyewall. I think this storm will be by far the most destructive of this season. Not often do you see a strong Cat 2 going over a major metro area of this size. When was the last one?? Lots of population just east of NO too like Gulfport which will be on the strong east side What are some good webcams to watch?
  2. Tip, can you give me a link to the Fous data? I had a link but it doesn't work anymore. I liked looking at is too
  3. Light mix started earlier this morning while I was at 35.3F We have had catpaws for a few hours now. Every once in awhile it goes over to snow. This is my second T of the season. Welcome J Culligan to the NNE forums. N NH finally getting some good posters. I'm so happy I moved up here from Boston Metro in 2001. No more coastal fronts to deal with just the Greens and Whites stealing most of the upslope snow
  4. Rain/Snow mix started an hour ago. Now mostly light snow. Temp slowly dropping 34.5F
  5. 6Z Euro has lowered snowfall amounts. Speaking of snow for today's little system a light rain/snow mix just started 35.5/31F
  6. 18Z NAM is drier and south with qpf. Nothing burger north of the Mass/NH line
  7. Just checking in. Really have not read the thread except the last 2 pages. I have low expectations up here. Seems like the trend is south. If Euro comes back more amped then I'll check back in. Another season where SNE cashes in and I play catchup? Hey, leaves are mostly down up here. What is the state of the forest canopy down closer to the slop zone? Power outage potentials?
  8. I'm 50 miles to your southwest and have had heavy drizzle with fine raindrops all morning. I assume it is the same at your property with echoes going that way
  9. 33.8F Light rain. Temp dipped to 32.7F around daybreak. I heard reports of a bit of freezing rain. Rain at 33 or 34F is about as miserable as it gets.
  10. I disagreed with you guys eliminating the Covid thread earlier this year and still disagree that the moderators don't want any posts on a subject of science. I understood that the old post veered into politics which is more subjective. Perhaps after next week when the election will be over we could bring back discussion on this important topic that affects all of us and could become really bad over the next couple of months. I found the New England discussion of Covid was a great resource as we have many intelligent people on this forum. Just my 2 cents.
  11. For a camera I have been using the Nest products for several years. You would have to research how they work with solar power and the type of internet service you will have. That might be the biggest issue with band with and interrupted power. Assuming that can be worked out the cam's work great for security as they can send you notifications of sound or motion. Lots of customization. Also with the Nest aware you can easily create time lapses of interesting weather events, for instance this time lapse of a summer storm. https://video.nest.com/clip/462c15255bfe4cd4804b2a96a5036360.mp4 I also have a VP2 weather station. To look at the quality of the Nest cam's and the VP2 info my weather link is www.bridgewaternhweather.com Congrats on your purchase.
  12. 49.4F Light Drizzle. So far .28" in this wet period since it started yesterday morning
  13. 51F Light rain showers. .10" with light showers this morning. We are in and out of low clouds Drove to Franconia Notch 2 days ago. White Mountains are now basically bare. Oaks are peaking here right now. Foliage started extremely early but then stalled and now Oaks are about on schedule for peaking.
  14. Thank you Phin and Alex for your great webcams. Now I can see what is going on in the Northern Presidentials and beyond. I also bookmark the Waterville Valley and Loon Mountain Cam. The Loon Mtn cam just faces a ski slope so it's hard to tell what is going on around that site. Do any of you have cam site that faces into Franconia Notch? I wish Cannon had a high quality cam. They do have a cam at the top. The State of NH does have some good road cams but they cycle through the day instead of a higher quality video feed. You have to stop it at the last frame. Okay I'm totally rambling. Bottom line, looking for more Cam sites in N NH
  15. 30.1F Vis 0 thick fog. Heavy frost. Coldest so far with my first widespread killing frost. Yesterday the storm produced 1.75" of rain and a 10 minute flip to snow around 630am. After the clouds cleared and I could see all the ridgelines the snow level was around 2000 feet. Ragged at 2200 feet was white at the top. Distant Sunapee had snow on it and Cardigan at 3108 was white all day. We took a ride around Newfound Lake and just 5 miles NW of the lake at higher elevations the ground was totally white and the roads were plowed. That again showed to me that even after a day in the 50's with a warm ground if it snows at a good clip it will stick. Of course this was during the dawn hours. White Mountains look very white this morning from the cams
  16. PF, that last picture is award winning beautiful! I found a site that you can upload your favorite picture for a jigsaw puzzle. (Zazzle). Going to steal this picture and post on my timeline.
  17. It's 11:15am and looks like snow shield is leaving NH. Unless someone posts more Alex wins round one. 4"?? What a paste job. We had one similar 2 years ago and birches are still bent. Hopefully temps will warm quickly to let trees rebound
  18. Congrats on the snow. We have to get the snow contest going. Right now your #1
  19. I kidded with Alex yesterday about that tent. They rent out that house and guests have weddings etc. Don't know what is suppose to go on today but the renters might have quite a surprise
  20. Was just texting Alex. He just woke up and looked out and said HOLLY COW. We texted for a minute then his power went out. So no more Cam pic Back to rain here and temp up from 33.5 to 33.8F with light rain but we definately flipped for a short while with some slush on the car windows
  21. I texted Alex last night and asked about the tent set up in his rental house yard where his cam points out at. Hope it holds up!
  22. Temp down to 33.5F It was 75% snow 10 minutes ago but now back to mostly rain with some cats paws. Just noticed a bit of slush on the deck and cars so it must have flipped to all snow for a bit just before I woke up at 640am. Can't discern a rain/snow line on the ridges as I can see up to the top at 1900 behind my house and it is doesn't look like it is snowing at the top.
  23. Just woke up. Temp falling steadily according to VP2 33.7F Flipping over now looking at spot lights
  24. I just looked and I'm just below 0C at 7am at 925mb. Maybe if the precip is going strong I can do a quick brief changeover?? Our neighbor right across the road has a friend up from Miami for the weekend. Would be nice for a quick flip for her. Watch the cams.
