  1. Sorry to hear all the heat issues. We have oil and a wood burning stoves. I go 50/50 depending on how lazy I am. The wood burning stove keeps the house comfortable on days above 20F. We don't have a house generator but a portable Honda generator that runs fridge, space heater and lights but not the well. We can always melt snow for water needs. So we are all set for prolonged ice storm situations. That is the only thing I really dread in winter. -3F last night Only 32" of snow so far this winter. Looking forward to see what the 12Z GFS looks like for this possible wet snow coming up.
  2. Here is the snowfall map from the last storm. Big gradient through my area. I think I set a record for the longest cleanup of a 6" storm. The 1" or so of sleet was just so compact and frozen it was near impossible to remove. Cleanup for a 18" powder snowfall is easier than 1" of cement sleet. Another way below zero night. I think I had 2 last year. Tonight will be #13.
  3. Boys, this one may sneak up on a lot of people, bit more qpf to come hour 84 12Z NAM 10:1
  4. 6" final Rain began late Thursday afternoon. During the evening it very slowly transitioned to snow and sleet. I lost a few hours of accum with temperatures sliding down through the 30's. During the night from late evening to 3am was a peltfest. We flipped around that time and it snowed of varying intensities all day until well into the evening. So the 6" has a layer of sleet under the snow. Today's choir is raking the flatter area of the roof. Ice dams are building up Even so we have a 15" durable pack now that has built up through many storms. Now on to Monday's chances
  5. We finally have a good pack up here. 15" or so. Made up of several storms, some with sleet and glaciated layers. This pack is durable. Another 3-6" up here would barely be noticeable. Time to roof rake today. 1" of sleet mixed in with snow. Not fun Hope it trends better for SNE. You are welcomed for this one
  6. Still snowing and accumulating. Closing in on about 7".
  7. Really nice winters day. Low 20's Snowed in various intensities all day. I have noticed something over the years in snowflake sizes, maybe others too? Today's flake size varied quite a bit. We would have lots of small flakes. Then a couple of large half dollar flakeswould mix in. Over the next ensuing minutes the half dollar flakes become more numerous. Soon they become the predominate flake size. As they do they become smaller and smaller. Over a time period of perhaps 30 minutes the pattern would repeat. Has anyone else noticed this in storms? Any Meteorological reason?
  8. 21.5F Light snow. Vis 1 mile. Half dollar size flakes.
  9. 23.2F Light to moderate snow. Half dollar size flakes so great snow growth. Est 5"
  10. 25 miles to your NW it has been snowing since 3am at my place and much earlier in Plymouth NH. Any reliable snow reports from K1p1? 23.5F Vis 1 mile light snow
  11. Get a watering can. Sprinkle warm water over ice. Just a bit. immediately get some snow from the woods and throw it over the slippery pack. It will stick to freezing water. You will never get down to bare pavement but a thin layer of snow is much less slippery. What I did yesterday is i have a thin vinyl long mat. Ace hardware sells a 12 foot section for $8. I lay it out before the ZR IP and then after the storm at least have a walk area void of frozen stuff. I also put the vinyl on the car windshield. There will be no scraping for me tomorrow and don't have to wait half an hour for the defroster to melt ice.
  12. 24F Silver dollars falling Brian, are you having sleet? Storm total?
  13. 24F Light snow. Keep that sleet 5 miles south of me. Nice mood flakes here Just snowblowed the driveway. About 5". Bottom inch is sleet. It had not froze yet with the snow on top so was able to get it off to almost bare pavement. Now it can snow over it and cleanup tomorrow will be easy
  14. 23.3F Moderate snow. Great snow growth. Like storms like this as there is no wind so flake size is bigger, or is it the warm layer just south of me?
  15. 31.3 sleetest ended snow began 3am. Sleet and icesheet just slid of roof. Really loud. Phin, maybe that happened to you? Back to bed
