  1. This systems sure looks subtropical to me. Convection wrapping around the core. Amazing it is the coldest climatological week of the year.
  2. Congrats on white ground down there. Looking at the satellite this system deserves a name. Amazing that we are even talking subtropical on the climatologically coldest week of the year.
  3. Alex, where exactly is that cam? Not at your house but on one of your properties?
  4. It was hard to determine my exact snowfall as it flipped to a mix and then rain after I went to bed. My guess would be about 2.5", maybe 3". As I expected the temperatures during the rain was 33-34F and my high this afternoon was 41F. It is now dropping back into the upper 30s. The ground is white so it will at least look like winter this week and my pond will make for good ice skating. Total snow this winter 33". I really did well with the Dec 17th? storm. 19" helped my total.
  5. Hum, for the plow pile at the end of the driveway you could wait until it is partially frozen this evening and drive back and forth over it to stamp it down.
  6. Just saw your post. I figured a lot of wet slush would be left this morning making snowblowing impossible. So yesterday evening right as the switch to mix I snowblowed the powder off. This morning I just had a slight bit of slush which is melting off now since it is 37F. Otherwise I would have had everything freezing solid this evening and a mess all week
  7. 28.3F Light to almost moderate snow. The light snow grains/freezing drizzle/sleet has turned to all snow. Temperature is creeping up.
  8. Dangerous Ice conditions on NH big lakes. Newfound Lake and I assume parts of Lake Winni and Squam finally skimmed over 2 nights ago. Really late in the season but it finally happened. Now we are getting those few inches of snow/sleet/mix. I would assume that even with the rain at the end the lakes will be white. This weekend the "flatlanders" will be up and this ice condition is ripe for disaster. The lakes ice in the big lakes will not be safe. I know the NWS in the spring sometimes puts out special statements about cold water but I don't think I have ever seen a statement about thin lake ice. I hope we get through this weekend without an accident.
  9. Cool, Mount Washington winds are out of the due south. So the wind must be funneling right up the notch. Once you get to that turnoff the wind is going over the Lafayette and down sloping at that point. I have noticed that is a real snowhole. It is amazing how a few miles make such a difference in weather.
  10. 25.7F Light snow grains mixed with freezing drizzle and a few larger sleet pellets. 1.5" of snow during the day
  11. 25.2 Very light snow. The temperature has remained steady since mid morning. Eyeballing about 1.25"
  12. I just realized Albany radar must be out, or is there just no precip?
  13. Mark, it's going to be interesting to see how much is washed away. Especially to your northeast. I bet the warm air doesn't make it to me until just about the end. Whether we stay in the 30s tomorrow or get into the warm air for a few hours will make a difference. I'm betting I will have a glaciated pack tomorrow night, at least to keep everything white. It will be fun to watch!
  14. In general doesn't the CAD over perform? It seems to in my hood. So many times the warm air gets just beyond Concord NH and then stalls.
  15. Boy, as soon what a mess this would be in my hood. 4" or so of snow, changing to rain and then back to snow. Once it changes to rain I would have to snowblow my driveway quickly or it would be an impossible slop to remove with snow falling on top. Much time for changes but another 2" qpf event seems likely
  16. One thing is for sure up here, Stein is gone. If the GFS verified another 3" of QPF incoming for Central NH. Snow to rain and if the trend of that coastal continues back to snow. I'm guessing more changes as the energy out west comes in to more sampled areas for the models
  17. So this is how you come up with your big snow totals. Blow that the other way and the powder just drops on you.
  18. What a beautiful night, last night. Full, supermoon and a snow laced landscape making it exceedingly bright. I was thinking how rare a night like this was. Maybe 2 supermoons in the winter months and then we need a very wet snowfall to have just taken place, no wind and clearing skies to make for a night like last night. I was not planning of taking any pictures but woke up around 2am and it was so bright I thought dawn had broke. I grabbed my cellphone and took a little walk. Total silence and eerily bright. Kudos to Samsung for making a smartphone's cameras so good that you can put it on night mode and grab pictures like this.
  19. With temperatures a few tenths of a degree above freezing and no wind yesterday's snowfall was a beauty in my hood. Last night skies cleared and there was also a full "super" moon. How many times does all this coincide? Pretty rare. I woke up around 2am and the house was so bright. Besides the full moon all the snow on the foliage added to the brightness. I decided to get dressed and take a walk. Outside there was total total silence, calm and eerily beautiful. Here are a few shots taken by my cellphone. Wow, what a night. I will remember it for a long time.
  20. During our snow the temperature was between 31.9 and 32.8F. Every tree is laced in snow since there was zero wind. I know this is your favorite type of snow.
  21. 31.7F Very light snow. I'll call it a wrap at 2.75". Seems like others are right around this too. Winter wonderland snow.
  22. 32.2F Light snow 1"ish Snow has picked up slightly in intensity Temperature slowly rose all morning to a high of 32.9F about 45 minutes ago. Now has fallen back to 32.2F
  23. FWIW the 12Z Geese still has something big for later next week 32.4F temp keeps rising. Beautiful 1" snow but anymore rise in temp it will be coming off the trees
  24. 32.2F Light snow. Temperatures continue the slow rise up here. 30.6F at daybreak
  25. 31.8F Gentle light snow about 3/4". Sure not a lot of cold air around for me to be this warm, with elevation on Jan 6th. Beautiful snowfall with no wind.
