  1. 45F Moderate rain showers with drizzle in between. Yet these are low clouds and I can see blue patches between the stratus with the sun coming out while it is raining. The sun is so strong I'm getting ground fog like in winter over snow in a humid airmass. Kind of unusual. About .35" since last evening and 2.45" for the whole event Going back to the Aurora, the big event in 2003? I was up here. Digital photography just begining. With the naked eye it was awe inspiring. Extremely noticeable. Everyone was taking about it. So, yes it can be that bright. Last night was so exasperating for me as I like Astronomy. Even the best Aurora can't compare to a full total eclipse.
  2. You are spot on. It seems these days everyone uses either time exposures or some post processing. It is very hard to know what you would see just looking up at the sky. In general photography is blurring into art a bit. The picture from Cromwell had to be one of these. That bright patch could never be that white.
  3. From what I understand there is an amazing geomagnetic storm hitting the Earth right now. Aurora's can be seen way south. Of course it's cloudy. Kp index 7.7
  4. 38.7F Moderate rain About 1.5" Trivia... Who was famous for saying we are in the Wheel of Misfortune?
  5. 38.8F Moderate rain. A little over 1"
  6. GFS very bullish. I need a few more inches to hit 100". Still 100% bare trees up here
  7. My sister in law and her 2 children have Covid right now. Kids are fine but sister in law is really sick. I thought it had gone away
  8. 37.8F Light snow shower. First forsythia's in bloom in my hood, snow pile down to 2 feet next to north facing part of the house.
  9. 80.5F Ice out in my pond today. Big snow melt in the woods too.
  10. I went to Aruba in the 90s. Todd Gross and family flew down too. Jerry, you are so right. You HAVE to be in the path of totality. Even if you are at 99% there is still too much light. The 2024 eclipse has a wider path, thus darker at the centerline and longer. The West coast of Mexico has the best chance of clear skies but in the US Texas is the place to go. I will just watch the weather leading up to it and will drive anyplace in the Northeast that looks good.
  11. It falls on a Monday. Trust me, if it looks like a chance to be clear drive to get into totality
  12. I went to Aruba back in the 90's to see one. It is something you absolutely will never forget. We were on the beach with hundreds of others. The shadow comes across the sky and it goes dark and the stars come out. Even people that are not into this kind of thing were blown away.
  13. "You flew your Lear Jet up to Nova Scotia to see a total eclipse of the sun". I believe March 1970.
  14. Mark your calendar and put in for a vacation day now. The astronomical event of a lifetime is coming to New England a year from today. (April 8 2024) A total eclipse of the sun. The path of totality passes through NNE. I saw one in Aruba many years ago and it is something you will always remember. Fingers crossed the weather is as good as today.
  15. If only we can have this weather one year from today! Astronomical event of a lifetime coming. Mark the date and put in for a vacation day now. A total eclipse of the sun is something you will never forget. Trust me.
  16. B Started with 19" in one storm in December. Then the warm January. Winter came back and ended up with 98" of snow. I estimate my average is 85"
  17. Just very light icing. Although it was cold we didn't have much QPF.
  18. 1pm and only up to 41F. Coating of ice last night.
  19. 30.7F here with freezing rain. I'm with you, no ice. I don't need to be out of power tomorrow. I'm looking so much to next week with 50s, then 60s and maybe 70F. It's been 5 months (early Nov) since I have been in the 50s. So ready.
  20. Hey guys (and Diane). I have not really been following the weather too closely but there seems to be the possibility of quite the ice storm in Northern sections. It is April so even with clouds and rain I would guess ice would not accrate very well during daytime hours. Thoughts?
  21. It is that time of year that the South facing slopes are becoming bare but the North and shady areas still have deep snow. Any guess when my piles from the roof will totally melt? Still looking for my first 50F of the year. Don't think today will be it. 38F as of 11am and cloudiness coming in.
  22. After Brian responded I went back and looked and I lied. After fropa I got all the way up to 42.5F. Argghh, I slept through the warmest part of the whole system. Back down to a below freezing, windy day.
  23. What was your high? Mine was 41F. CAD rules!
  24. 36.7F Cloudy with extremely low visibility. Looks like our snow cover is not going anywhere fast. High was 40F Such a miserable day. I needed sunshine and warmth. I took the drone up late afternoon and quickly found spring lurking 700 feet above me.
  25. 39.8F still clouded over. Arggghhhh...
