  1. Lots of ash around here including 2 next to my house. Just waiting for the EAB to arrive.
  2. 39.9F overcast. Clearing line moving north through S NH
  3. I have 2 plow companies that rely on me for forecasts. They both texted me and asked if they can take their plows/sanders off all their trucks this weekend. I said yes but that westward shift on the Euro makes me a bit nervous. Sure we can get snow in April and they can always re attached plows but even if we do (unless its a big storm) the melt begins pretty quickly. I give a 20% chance of accumulating snow up here mid-week, that is probably generous.
  4. 39F cloudy, wood stove roaring away. Down to the last 50 pieces of wood
  5. 37.2F overcast. Watching the GOES, really shows where the low level clouds are east of the VT spine but eroding in SNE. Congrats down there. Will be really interesting to see how far north the warm front gets before dark
  6. Alex, I know for you guys it's been a long process and the 2 of you make such good parents. Giving the kids opportunities they never would have had. Again congrats to the new Foti family
  7. Tip, electrostatic "cling" effect is in full effect so far 36.7F dark overcast miserable.
  8. Warmed up quite nicely this PM. From 38F at 1245pm to 47F at 545pm. Models were not off too far after all for me. Late PM sunshine helped
  9. Why can't they tweak the models? Seems like they are always too warm in situations like this. 38F at 1245pm. No way am I hitting 51F today
  10. I never knew this existed. I'm going to order one. Probably good for freezing rain too. Thanks
  11. Dryslot. Lets get creative, make $ and go on sharktank. One of those weighted blankets with a waterproof plastic wrap made the size of car windows. Place it on each night during frost season and save hours of scraping each winter. We can make millions.
  12. Depressingly cold right now up here. Temp fell 2F in past hour to 36F with light rain. Those 50's and 60's advertised earlier this week will not happen up here it seems.
  13. Kind of a depressingly cold morning. Temp just fell 2F to 36F with light rain. Earlier this week it looked like today and tomorrow would be around 60F for me. Doesn't look like that will happen. Snow stake down to around 4". Good melt yesterday with bare spots appearing south slope and under apple trees while its still a couple feet deep in the woods
  14. Big jump north on the Euro. Any further north the qpf gets into NNE. Remains to be seen if its wet snow or rain but we do not need a nor easter with such a big pack melting
  15. Will, don't forget the Grand daddy of all late snows. May 1977. Huge tree damage in that storm as everything was leafed out
  16. April 7 1982 Boston had a blizzard. Dry snow too. It can still happen under right conditions
  17. I just saw that. The GFS has gone back and forth with this system but I think this is the closest run over the past several days. Maybe if the Euro comes on board I'll start watching it more closely.
  18. Bluebirds arrived this AM. Just saw 3. We put up bluebird nests several years ago and have nesting birds. Seemed to have really increased the population in the apple orchards. Don't know if these birds are just passing through northbound or are birds that come back here. Can't get the houses up till snowmelt and ground thaws. Maybe early next week. I'll ignore the GFS that shows a few inches of snow later this weekend.
  19. Deer and turkey competed for the grass patch outside our window last evening. They don't seem to mind each other sometimes getting within a couple of feet of each other. I turned on the spots a few times during the night. Between 2-10 deer were out there each time I checked. Once the pasture opens they will scatter. I have not seen any squirrels or chipmunks yet nor songbirds.
  20. That snowfall map was interesting. In actuality, if we had super-resolution the snowfall in the hills and mountains of C/NNE snofall would be all over the place. Take my 10 mile neck of the woods area. (yellow line) I have 2 friends that are very good observers. Bristol NH at 500 feet is around 80" I'm at 1100 feet at 98". My friend at the top of the hill around 1600 feet is at 120". The big elevated November storm was part of that disparity however I'm sure all elevated areas and upslope and downslope have even more differences than this over a shorter area.
  21. Thank so much for this detailed explanation.
  22. 31/4 Help me understand something Brian. So a higher dew helps melt snow, right? You've posted many times that high dews are snow eaters. Yet when the air is very dry, say in my house laundry, plant soils etc dry out much quicker. Wouldn't a low dew day quicken sublimation and help get rid of the pack? I assume from your posts that all things being equal a 35/20F day would have more melt than a 35/5F day. Thanks
  23. Some of you know Josh Morgerman an avid Hurricane chaser and who is part of the AMWX community. I met him years ago at one of the AMWX get-togethers. Really nice guy. Last year he teamed up with a UK producer and created the new series Hurricane Man. A crew traveled with Josh as he traveled the globe in pursuit of tropical cyclones. The first episode aired on British cable last night. I understand it is really good. Lots of epic footage. A US cable channel just picked it up but it's not 100% finalized so Josh can't say who they are but he did say it's one of the major channels most people get. Should be a good show. I think Josh has chased more tropical cyclones than anyone else in the world. That is quite a feat!
