Nice T storm just moved through. No wind but quite a bit of C to G lightning bolts. Cam caught this one a little to close for comfort. Ignore the white line, that is just a bug flying by the infrared cam. Just finished the first mowing of the fields and the 2nd mow of the lawn. Apple trees are just starting to leaf out. If anyone likes mowing hit me up. Actually putting on headsets with some music and riding my 52" zero turn is enjoyable.

Leaf out is around 25-50% as of today Sat 18th. Usually, things are pretty much full green in my area by the 20th so running quite a bit behind. Looking at this picture the trees on my hill seem further along than around Newfound Lake. Maybe the cold water is keeping the temperatures a bit cooler down below? I don't know

Everything is late. Better greenup by Memorial Day weekend only 7 days away. Warmer and more humid weather coming so things should really move along. The White Mountains have their deflector shields on today. Downsloping is giving me 100% blue skies while you are clouded in on the other side.

Green up finally in process. We are about at 20-40% with small leaves. Looking at the hills it is so apparent that even the littlest elevation makes a difference. Things should move rapidly now, Memorial Day weekend is next weekend and all the flatlanders will be coming up expecting it to look like summer. Aurora Borelis was seen south all the way to Ohio last night. More chances this week. Too bad we are stuck with so much cloudiness and a full Moon on the 18th

That really is amazing for May 26th. The tree damage must have been huge. Few sloppy inches is one thing but 3 feet!

The May 26th storm stands out. That was the one that gave me 3" and I think even Brian got some accumulation. I believe some of the NY mountains got up to 18"

Run after run the models insist on some sloppy snow for the hills and mountains of NNE. Not that unusual for May 14th but fun to see. If we are going to have a rain storm and temps in the upper 30's and low 40's we might as well have some snow.

Early next week continues to look very miserable. Cold rain mixed with cat paws. Snow in higher elevations. Looks like going to have to fire up the wood stove yet again. Leafout continues in my area of Central NH. Forest canopy is just about ready to explode with green but it has been another slow week of progress. Usually, by mid May I'm pretty much leafed out so definitely behind this year. Should fall further behind through next week before any warm weather arrives at the end of the week.

Another cold and snowy run on today's Euro Clown maps for next week

Dim sun today, living on the edge Birch popped small leaves the past 2 days, aspen too. This is the week everything really starts to open. My guess is first lawn cut later this week but boy is the soil wet.

A mistake I sometimes see with people putting down grass seed is that they just sprinkle it on top or lightly rake it in. A thin coating of top soil over the grass seed and keeping it moist without letting it dry out goes a long way. Soil temperature really helps too.

My pussy willow tree looks kind of similar to this right now. Past the fuzzy soft stage and not leafed out yet.

Is this the same bamboo that I see down in Maryland? What a disaster down there. When I grew up there was none. Then people started planting it. It spreads like crazy with roots that make it almost impossible to stop. It seems everywhere now. About 10 years ago the neighbors next to my folk's house decided to plant a small amount to camouflage their trash can container. It has spread rapidly covering up about 1/4 of the backyard going now into my folk's property. They have hired professionals to try to irritate them, even brought in a small backhoe but they can't get all the roots and it's out of control. It is now banned in the state. Be careful with this stuff.

Wow on the grass green up. It was totally brown just 2 days ago and now the yard is green. I have never seen it change so fast. These endless hours of high dews and temps are doing their work. Next up is the forest. Still waiting on forsythia or those Norway maples then everything goes all at once.

Snow start time 8pm. 31/16F Tired and heading to bed. Should be about over when I wake up. I'm thinking 3 or 4" Enjoy the storm

At 1:/10 ratio you got a 6" plus along Mass Pike and a foot south coast. Even gets snow up to me here in Central NH

18Z GFS moves everything almost 50 miles north. So total qpf is .50 to NH line and over 1" south coast of SNE

1.25" dense powder snow overnight puts me at 40.25" season 18.6F light snow grains

Thanks NoPoles. I knew some of that. They did post a few pics of snow guns at the bottom. They lost all of Dec when we had 30" of snow in the area and then lost Christmas ski week. I would have thought this would have been planned out since they got the lifts going right at the end of last ski season.

Tenney Mtn opened today. I really don't understand what they are doing. No working webpage really, just facebook. No condition reports. Just sent out a message on FB that they opened. Seems like a stupid way to open a Mtn. They don't have any snowmaking so that is tough in this climate, especially being just south of the Whites. I wish them luck.
