  1. As I await the fropa and snow squalls I'll post this picture. So many frickin deer in our apple orchard last night. Bucks and does. I can see a dozen or more yarding up in the woods right now. We had a bumper crop of apples but they are now about gone. Lots of working digging through the 5-8" of that sleet/freezing rain/snow combo from last week . Here is a picture of the activity from the past 24 hours. The 3.75" of snow from two days ago had covered the old tracks so this is from last night. I know you are not suppose to feed deer any food and I don't anymore but since they all yard up behind the house I figure that I might buy some deer apples and scatter them around each day. That is what they have been eating the past couple of months so it's not changing their metabolism. They are smart and know the south facing slope will always have less snow and be the first to melt off so they stick around the house each winter. Wonder if this weekends warmth will be enough to melt some bare spots? Probably not since this snow has so much water content and is very durable.
  2. We took a ride up to Alex's today. 9" at the snow stake here but only a few inches in the Plymouth to Lincoln area. Snow cover becomes deeper north of Franconia Notch. A local photographer was in front of our house this afternoon and posted this picture of our road. Nothing special, fairly typical January day. The weekend situation seems like it's becoming a warmer solution. Really warm in the east coast cities. Mid 60's
  3. 21 Partly cloudy flurries We just had a crazy snow squall. 1.25" in about 20 or 30 minutes During the day today light snow gave me just under 1.50" before the squall. Nice little 2.75" event. More streamers seem to be coming west to east towards me. I usually don't pay much attention because the Greens capture most everything. Didn't work this evening
  4. 1145am Monday Light to almost moderate snow 22F.
  5. Calm day today. Newfound Lake is still open. Usually by now we have the lake mostly frozen.
  6. I like my location as far as the boards go because I'm 17 miles north north west of Brian and 600 to 700 feet higher. Many people are saying Congrads Dendrite so I can take their posts and his forecast and know that usually I'll score a tick or 2 better.
  7. I was just looking up New Sharon Maine, trying to get a feel on where the NNE posters are. I think you might be the furthest north of everyone. Alex and Pfreak are slightly south of due west of you.
  8. Bit over 1/4" in flurries last night brings me to 30" for the season. Lots of weather possibilities in the future. No super arctic air which is fine by me but hopefully cold enough to start building up the pack.
  9. Light snow 31.9F Almost 1/4" so far. Lots of snowshowers and squalls to the west. Forecasted to weaken. We will see.
  10. Idiots are out on Newfound Lake walking on very thin ice. I took the drone up yesterday. Lake just skimmed over a few nights ago but days have been above freezing with nights in the upper 20's. This really puts first responders at risk. New snow will cover this thin ice tonight making things very dangerous all week without any arctic blast to follow. Drone video over Newfound that I took Sat PM
  11. Struggling up to 30F at noon. Light freezing rain. Main roads are fine but the hill dirt roads are ice skating rinks. I have lots of errands to do but can't get off my hill yet.
  12. Alex, I have been thinking about Armani. What an ordeal. Hope this accident will not scare him off for skiing. Glad that modern medicine can do so many things. Fatal ski accident at Loon yesterday. Pretty rare in this day and age. 71 year old found off the trail. Guy was from my area, Bristol. Weatherwise things look to get more interesting. 948mb low on the GFS at hour 200 something. I'll post that in the misery thread.
  13. Several days away but some potential for significant ice depending on where the next system goes. Euro is colder but GFS is trending that way. Here is the Weatherbell ice product for the storm. Something to watch
  14. Heck, I'm Jewish so I'm not going to sweat it out either way. Merry Christmas to all of you.
  15. My yard is deceptive because of the south facing slope. Just about everyplace around has a (thin) 2-4" snowcover. Birds and deer are really enjoying the grass and bare ground on the property
  16. Merry Christmas everyone, Happy Hanukkah to me. I don't know if I qualify for a White Christmas?. Last year we had snowpack from early November through till spring except like this year we had a few days of grass showing through right around Christmas.
  17. Tenney Moutain near me still has not been able to open. Sold lots of season passes last year. They have no snowmaking to speak of. I would not be happy if I were one of them but if people are dumb enough to buy passes at mountains with no snowmaking then I really don't feel very sorry for them. Cooler weather now but have to work on storms. Not looking too good.
  18. 32! I have been below freezing since last Saturday except for an hour or so on the 18th when I got up to 33F Watching 4 bluebirds eating berries on our bush. I have never seen bluebirds spend the winter before. Climate change?
  19. Nice, GFS and Euro have 1-3" of snow for C/NNE through the end of the month. Low last night 2.2F. Got to an 0F the night before.
  20. Extreme snow squall. Just made this video, the worst had just past. Wind is roaring in the trees. Very brief 10 minutes but visability was down into the hundreds of feet. People on Rt 93 are going to be in for a surprise just south of Plymouth
  21. Looking to the west as the sun sets a solid dark line of darkness with tall convective type tops. Some intense stuff in Vermont.
  22. Looks like 4" will be my total. Im at 18" for the season. At least the bare ground is now covered. Even though it will warm up a bit next week still in the mid 30's for highs. Not warm enough to melt 4" so it looks like a white Christmas. No big storms in sight but looking forward to some squalls tomorrow. Maybe add an 1" or so.
  23. Tomorrow later afternoon looks very interesting for upslope areas. Zooming in on Alex's area my snow products are showing over 6-9" in squalls. I would guess the shoot would want snow coming down but with the arctic front it looks like near blizzard conditions later in the day
  24. Just reading up on the thread as to what happened last evening. Had know idea. We did have a moderate snow squall that whitened the ground and blew around. Every once in a while a streamer gets across the Greens on a west flow. Hoping for a few inches tomorrow. Frost will get deep in the ground without a protective coat of white.
