  1. Hum, snowy day Wednesday? 4 days out and it's April, lots could go wrong... Edit. No response from yesterday's post and it's 24 hours later. Wednesday doesn't seem like a big deal anymore and may go south but wow for Thursday. Bombing out low to our east.
  2. My town of Bridgewater has mostly dirt roads and very low taxes. Acess to a clean swimable NH lake was also important to me. Although I "only" average 80-85" of snow my retention is good because of cold air damning. Very rare to have bare ground in December through March. It's a balance of what you want in life, just snow and sking or closer to civilization. For me I lucked out picking this 15 acre plot. My other advice is to wait until we know how this pandemic works out. With sky rocketing unemployment land and home prices might plummet up here.
  3. This topic comes up from time to time on the boards and I respond to each time it does... I made this exact decision back in 1989 when I lived in Boston. I wanted a fixer upper with land and a view up in the mountains. As a skier and a snow lover I looked all over NNE. I needed some balance between weather but social activities and even medical care. Living far away in a rural area has some downsides. I found my place in the foothills of the White Mountains of NH. In a low tax town of 1000 people called Bridgewater NH. I'm high on a hill at a elevation of 1100 feet. Plenty of snow (over 80") but only 13 miles from interstate 93 so I can be in Boston in 2 hours for everything a city has to offer. So for me it was a balance of services, taxs, weather, skiing, shopping and medical. Also make sure you have wifi access. Much of NNE does not. Good Luck
  4. 38.9F Light rain about .90" We had mixed rain and snow most of last evening with temperature around 35F Fields are brown and pond is full. Grass should greenup in the next week or two
  5. 34.6F 50/50 snow and rain. As it was getting dark looks like snow line is around 1600 feet on the ridgelines
  6. 34.9F Light rain mixed with mangled flakes. When it comes down hard it's more snow and when it lets up more rain.
  7. Alex says 2" of snow there abnd snowing at 5pm Rain snow mix here 35.5
  8. Yeah, I noticed the 12Z Euro chance of giving me a bit of snow. Let's see if 18Z takes it away Here's a video of today's snow and the clearing adverting from the north. One minute it's winter and then by midday it's gone https://video.nest.com/clip/5322466be1a248e89b927e7596858d7b.mp4
  9. 34.2F Light snow vis about 1 mile 515pm. Looking at webcams in my area it looks to be rain down where most people live.
  10. Enjoyed last nights thunderstorms. We had a couple move through during the evening. The best one was late evening. Temp at 33F with heavy rain turning to heavy sleet. Enough to whiten the ground. At first I thought it was hail and maybe under certain unique weather conditions both could fall if there was enough convection above the cold lower layer. That's a question for the Mets... Looking forward to some snow this afternoon and then we are under the wheel of misfortune for awhile
  11. 38F light rain on this Sunday morning... It's pretty unclear to me what will happen in my hood. Change to light ice or snow overnight? Not looking for much but some white or icing might keep my mind occupied. 24/7 COVID info is not good mentally...
  12. Thursday mornings snowfall is about over as I'm up to 32.8F Snow total 1.25" Season total 66.25"
  13. Nice visible satellite image this Wed AM. You can clearly see where the snow line is. The Northern part of Lake Winn. is white while the Southern part is not. About 15-20% snowcover remains in my hood. Bluebirds have arrived and are seeking out our birdhouses.
  14. 28.8F at mid day. 1" new 65.25" on the season
  15. Had some sleet very early morning the whitened up the grass for awhile. I'll call it 1/4" 64.25" for the season which is probably around 10-15" below my yearly average. It's interesting to note my last measurable snowfall was back on Feb 18th My south facing property is almost snow free but woods and north facing slopes are still snowcovered. Also as a side bar in watching the news today and live shots of the White House, the cherry trees seem to be in bloom and the grass green. Everything is running ahead of schedule
  16. 66.1F for my high. My pastures are mostly snow free but in the general area snowcover is still over 50%.
  17. Steady light snow up here on the hill this PM 36.5F
  18. My fields are now mostly snow free although the ground is still totally snow covered in the woods. Deer are out having a lot of fun, being able to run on bare ground. I made this 3 minute video of them late this afternoon. They have so much personality. Video starts slow but then they all get running around. https://video.nest.com/clip/ef5bb5bef7cb4951b7c0c70af056cd3d.mp4
  19. Today felt so nice. 46F. Looking hard on my south slopes to find any bare patches but no luck today. Perhaps tomorrow? I have not been following the weather closely, too much going on but Wed night looks to be interesting. Another tough call for my area, wet or white?
  20. Eat some and burn it off. Round and round we go? Beautiful day today. Newfound Lake Ice Derby. Many people on the lake. I would guess we are max ice thickness for the year as the sun starts taking a toll even on sub freezing sunny days.
  21. Beautiful day today. 11" at my snowstake out back on level ground. Snow stake in this picture is on a slight southward slope and measures about 9 or 10" Seems a deer wanted to investigate it judging by the tracks nearby. I never get tired of the view out our windows.
  22. Clouds have been pretty thick all day. Seemed to be stuck at 33.8F A couple of drips off the roof but no real melting today. Doesn't look like much melting this week just adding to snowcover on Tuesday.
