  1. As often happens here on the backside of these systems, precip is winding down as the colder air moves back in. Just a few stray flakes blowing around. 0.68” of rain. 33
  2. Wind shifted to NW, temp down to 35. Flipping back to some white rain.
  3. Still raining and 39, with over a half-inch of rain in the gauge. This turned out to be more of a soaker than I'd expected; I figured it would be more of a classic SWFE where we get a 2-3" front end thump of snow followed by some light rain and drizzle at the end.
  4. Can see the potential for a quasi screw zone between the initial SNE thump and the heavy retro stuff in DE Maine. Between the unusual evolution, marginal temps and long duration, this will be a tough one to message for this area.
  5. 39 with light rain. Slushy coating on unpaved surfaces (grass still showing through).
  6. 30. Expecting an inch or two of slop, mostly washed away by tomorrow afternoon.
  7. Still showing 2-3" here. Certainly beats the Christmas Eve monsoon redux that seemed to be in store 6 days ago.
  8. I'd take that and run. Gotta get rid of the mid-April appeal around here - mud interspersed with small patches and piles. Took the boys to Sunday River yesterday. It's really surreal to do that whole drive at the end of December and have bare ground everywhere. (edit: meant for that to be in response to Dryslot's NAM map post)
  9. Anyone familiar with Sunday River, I’m curious about how things are working these days in terms of gear & bags/storage. Should I plan to put my ski boots on at the car? Do I need to be prepared to ski with a backpack?
  10. Bad as it gets for winter recreation. Not sure what we’ll do with the kids for the next 10 days; can only do so many puzzles. I guess the silver lining is that the lack of significant ice kept this from being more of a flooding disaster for some areas.
  11. I was thinking - for all the bad shit he did, the actual Grinch didn’t take Whoville’s snow. I think we need a new name for this cruel phenomenon.
  12. Of course it is. Total wipeout here. At least the wind has underperformed.
  13. That's interesting to hear. The people I know who have passes actually tend to be more selective about conditions, but I'm sure it goes both ways. Guess it depends on what the perceived break-even is. I've been wondering how the RFID thing is working, particularly at Sunday River where we go most often. I'm also curious about whether "midweek" is as much of a thing these days, with so many people working remotely and kids not in school every day.
  14. And things broke just right for many of us last week. We tend to underappreciate the times when we thread the needle.
  15. Well, at least I'll be cooped up at home with my kids for 2 weeks with no snow in sight. One final FU from 2020.
  16. That's my mindset. The kids and I have new gear and are itching to go, but there's no way I'm dropping that type of money to ski limited terrain that'll be loose granular and boilerplate. I feel bad for my DC-area friends who booked a week of skiing in VT and are doing the whole self-quarantine thing. Just an all-out disaster.
  17. When does the January thread start?
  18. The other thing that happens with those powdery, windy storms is that you end up with spots where the grass isn't even covered - so you start to get bare patches pretty quickly.
  19. Last night's powder will be gone long before Christmas Eve. Having all this snow around leading up to the holiday has been great though, and more than we could have hoped for a week ago at this time. I do agree with the earlier post pointing out that having a legit post-Xmas threat to track would take some of the sting out of the Grinch.
  20. My wife heard it was going to be "really warm" and suggested that we could meet up with some extended family outside for Christmas Eve. I regretfully informed her that "warm" in this case means 50s with pouring rain and howling wind.
  21. The Euro depiction is just comically awful. All you can do is laugh. I guess it would be the perfect bow on this POS year.
