  1. Glad to see more folks have snow cover. Merry Christmas to those who celebrate. I think we will fight for every inch the next week or so but then I think we get there and get a real stretch of winter at the coldest part of the year.
  2. If you change your forecasting technique to simply predict whether or not there will be a severe blizzard on any given day, and say "there will not be a severe blizzard today," you will be right 99.9+ % of the time! Think of the possibilities...
  3. 19 here and the dewpoint only slightly below. It’s cold and we are going to glaze. Already a couple of degrees below the projected low and skies are still pretty clear so we will radiate some more I assume
  4. It is cold here. What mechanism wants the boundary in an offshore light?
  5. Thank you. Now we just have to get some snow on top of it. Hopefully something pops before New Years.
  6. Seems like the temps are pretty low. It is colder than forecast here by a few degrees and the sun will be down shortly. Skies are clear so there will be some rad cooling. My point being it will likely add to the pack and solidify it vs. eroding it. That's all I'm concerned about with this one.
  7. the only value of that is a hardening of the pack. I hate icestorms.
  8. i mean, we are in territory where the nam can lead in some situations. The fact that the gfs followed is a strong sign of at least something decent over by you. The Euro will show something at 18z probably.
  9. it is so soon, that we can't really default to the ensembles. lets see what nammy does very soon.
  10. is it still true that the GFS is better than the Euro with NS lows?
  11. probably not enough further back, but this can still develop a bit I'd think. If the trend to an earlier phase continues for another run or 2 then maybe it is cold enough for heavy wet snow in the interior.
  12. does the snow cover help with the BL or is it more about the bigger process/evolution?
  13. exactly. the either-or statements aren't fact-based. A good pacific is better sometimes, and a good Atlantic at others. Also depends on where you live, as I look out my window.
  14. What a gorgeous morning. A very thick dense snow, sticking to everything and should be a good base to start the snow pack. One stick had about 5 inches the other six in the other somewhere around 6 1/2. I’m going to call at 5.75 inches, a little less than Brian has as is usually the case.
  15. Some mixing here. Snow growth is not good though radar returns are fairly healthy. Maybe ice crystals are granules mixed in with very small snowflakes and sleet
