  1. That was an evacuation mess for the panhandle with miles and miles of of stopped traffic on major road arteries. Opal was the impetus for reversing lanes of traffic on major road arteries going forward.
  2. This is two to three times the storm surge Helene produced depending on where you are in the Tampa metroplex. Some homes unaffected by Helene may very well be affected by that kind of tidal surge.
  3. 4K guardsman have been activated for debris removal per Governor DeSantis press conference. It will now be a 24/7 effort until conditions are not safe to do so.
  4. Agreed it was necessary. In all fairness the potential severity of this storm came to light yesterday so a 24 hour response is reasonable IMHO.
  5. Timestamps on those photos is a key detail.
  6. Folks in the Tampa area need to be taking pictures with Timestamps of the current condition of their homes. Two claims from two different storms can be really tricky. I have friends that have a flood claim from Helene. This has the potential for flood and wind damage.
  7. The hurricane models are all tightly clustered around Tarpon Springs and Port Richey area. That area is already reeling from the flooding from Helene. The is a lot of debris on the right of way that will become projectiles if this pans out.
  8. I have a friend in Apollo Beach that had two feet of water in their home. I have another friend in Tarpon Springs that had four feet of water in their home. There are a lot of folks misplaced in that area.
  9. I hope that is wrong. The last thing many areas in Florida do not need is more rain.
  10. UPDATE: Good news! My son contacted my this morning and said he is safe. He had to use someone else's phone that had service. Communication is spotty at best in that area. He has a weeks worth of food and water and knows to ration it. He said the most annoying thing is not being able to flush. He thanked me for raising him a Floridian because he was well prepped for the storm. Thank you everyone here for the kind words, thoughts and prayers.
  11. Filled out a missing person report for my son in Ashville, NC. I last heard from him Friday at 1:30 PM. He said he was on the second floor of his home and cut off from everything because of flood water and debris. The situation there is beyond dire.

  13. Seems to be a recurring theme regarding what has held her back. Each time it looks like the dry air mixed out another fresh batch comes in. This is very evident in the WV loops.
  14. Completely agree. The eastern eyewall is at 85N and 25N. The past 4 hours the track has had more of a easterly component than northerly.

  16. In 24 hours the forward speed of Helene is just ridiculous. I thought that systems that move this fast have a difficult time remaining vertically stacked?
  17. GFS near Perry Fl and Icon near Steinhatchee.
  18. Yep! Misread the 27th for 26th so I was wrong.
  19. After that all model guidance has 30 to 40 knot shear depicted.
  20. ULL has yet to retrograde. Until it does PTC9 will be slow to develop. The EURO seems to have a good handle on this.
  21. Would likely mean less time over the GOM loop current which would reduce intensity some. Tampa still needs to be paying attention.
  22. Taylor County just cannot catch a break.
  23. ULL a little more west than 6Z run which accounts for the shift NW.
  24. The newer track would effect intensity since the COC would miss the GOM loop current later in the run.
  25. Hurricane models are not a good predictor of intensity without COC. They all over produce at this point. The Global models have all shifted east this morning. The ULL is further east and stronger.
