  1. Here in the panhandle if you have an older home that is not on pilings you are looking at 40K annually to insure. That is why most are uninsured.
  2. It always amazed me how many homes near the Tampa coast are not on pilings. Luck as it seems may have finally run out.
  3. Kind of like building a nuclear power plant next to the Pacific Ocean knowing you live on one of the worlds most active fault zones.
  4. As someone who lives on a barrier island, I was always amazed at how many homes in Tampa are not on pilings and how they have got away with that for so many years. I suspect that if the worst case happens and their homes are 49% destroyed or more they will be required to have pilings with a rebuild.
  5. That was recorded in the Caribbean. I was on the Wright weather board early that morning when that pressure was recorded.
  6. I believe Allen in 1980 is the lowest ever recorded in the GOM at 909.
  7. Other states will not be immune to those ridiculous rate increases. Hurricane warnings were issues well inland (Macon GA.) for Helene. Those rates increases will be felt well inland and beyond coastal communities.
  8. That track goes right over MacDill AFB. A lot of middle east support assets with SOCOM.
  9. What is the top end potential with Milton ramping up so quickly. Sub 900?
  10. Tyndall Airforce base is still rebuilding 6 years after Michael. SOCOM may have to relocate if this ends up being the worst case scenario. I have a friend who has been a civilian contractor for SOCOM and the buildings there have regular roof leaks all the dang time that have to be patched. Once the roof is compromised its all over.
  11. That was an evacuation mess for the panhandle with miles and miles of of stopped traffic on major road arteries. Opal was the impetus for reversing lanes of traffic on major road arteries going forward.
  12. This is two to three times the storm surge Helene produced depending on where you are in the Tampa metroplex. Some homes unaffected by Helene may very well be affected by that kind of tidal surge.
  13. 4K guardsman have been activated for debris removal per Governor DeSantis press conference. It will now be a 24/7 effort until conditions are not safe to do so.
  14. Agreed it was necessary. In all fairness the potential severity of this storm came to light yesterday so a 24 hour response is reasonable IMHO.
  15. Timestamps on those photos is a key detail.
  16. Folks in the Tampa area need to be taking pictures with Timestamps of the current condition of their homes. Two claims from two different storms can be really tricky. I have friends that have a flood claim from Helene. This has the potential for flood and wind damage.
  17. The hurricane models are all tightly clustered around Tarpon Springs and Port Richey area. That area is already reeling from the flooding from Helene. The is a lot of debris on the right of way that will become projectiles if this pans out.
  18. I have a friend in Apollo Beach that had two feet of water in their home. I have another friend in Tarpon Springs that had four feet of water in their home. There are a lot of folks misplaced in that area.
  19. I hope that is wrong. The last thing many areas in Florida do not need is more rain.
  20. UPDATE: Good news! My son contacted my this morning and said he is safe. He had to use someone else's phone that had service. Communication is spotty at best in that area. He has a weeks worth of food and water and knows to ration it. He said the most annoying thing is not being able to flush. He thanked me for raising him a Floridian because he was well prepped for the storm. Thank you everyone here for the kind words, thoughts and prayers.
  21. Filled out a missing person report for my son in Ashville, NC. I last heard from him Friday at 1:30 PM. He said he was on the second floor of his home and cut off from everything because of flood water and debris. The situation there is beyond dire.
  22. https://www.sgilighthousecam.com/ Live webcam on St. George Island Lighthouse.
  23. Seems to be a recurring theme regarding what has held her back. Each time it looks like the dry air mixed out another fresh batch comes in. This is very evident in the WV loops.
