adelphi_sky replied to Kmlwx's topic in Mid Atlantic
Today was awesome! .06 on the gauge for today with faint distant rumbles of thunder! Win! Two more days left of potential severe? There better be basktball-sized hail on Thursday.- 2,802 replies

I'm sitting at 88F. I'm not so sure it is because of a lack of heating. I thought there were disturbances that would kick off storms? Perhaps whatever is at the VA/NC border is stealing all of the dynamics from our area? Or is that feature supposed to cycle through our area after 8pm tonight? It looks to be moving north.- 2,802 replies

I'm already up to 84.7F THe sun disappeared on me. But I would think that would be just fine for today's threat.- 2,802 replies

I see sun and blue sky in Adelphi. 82.2F. Dewpoint is 74. I'd imagine that's enough to get some storms going. 87 shouldn't be too hard to reach in a few hours if it stays partly cloudy.- 2,802 replies

That storm that came through College Park was so tiny, I only got .33 inches while some other parts got .8. My neighborhood was on the northern edge of that storm. .38 total for me yesterday. Then I watched as just southeast of DC got storm after storm. lol

Seeing patches of brown in my lawn. It's getting serious. Time for some soaking rains. Hope this stretch of 4 days of rain does the trick if my lawn is to survive the rest of the summer. Hail and wind I can do without though. :-)- 2,802 replies

Thanks! I appreciate the posts. That's amazing.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I have come to the idea that usually when we have mild winters, our summers are on the cooler side. And when our winters are cold and snowy, we get heat waves.

Are dogs living with cats yet?

.66 inches. 1.37 for the past 7 days. I guess that's okay. Still would like to get over an inch for one event. Hope the sky clears up so that I can get under a good 20-minute downpour.

I've been in but have been left out. I'm becoming cynical. lol Meanwhile, Columbia gets tornadoes and LaPlata doesn't. Dogs and cats must be living together watching pigs fly overhead.- 2,802 replies

I got .60 inches from the event. Way under the inch and a half I was hoping for. Next.
-
.55 inches from the event so far. I'd be satisfied with another inch. But I know that's asking too much.
-
.03 inches. Let's do this! Woo hoo!
-
I'd give my first born for that rain.

Yeah. I finally learned to apply lawn soil and straw, which is hard to find except on Amazon. That 90 degrees stretch in May wasn't helpful. I'll come back in the fall and get it done right now that I know what seed to get and how to help it grow. I'll put it down after the lawn service aerates it.

This grass is on the curb on the other side of the sidewalk in front of my house. Unfortunately, the sprinkler system doesn't reach out that far. So, I have to manual water it. But I try to water once in the morning and once in the evening before sunset. The grass under the sprinkler system is fine of course. :-)

Thank you @showmethesnow ! I will keep that in mind as well this fall. The grass seed I put down seems to be struggling even with the copious amounts of water I give it. I have a lawn company that comes and sprays every 6 - 8 weeks. I'll ask them about it when they come and do their aeration and seeding this fall.

Sorry to hear about the flying ants. Glad you got most of your lawn back. To be honest, I'm just complaining about maybe 10% of my lawn. But its curb appeal ya know. :-)- 2,802 replies

I'm ready for HUrricane tracking now. I'm done staring at radar hoping for drops of rain to feed my baby grass. I'll just replant in the fall. Bring on the big storms!- 2,802 replies

Well, it is the third week since I planted grass. It looks pitiful. So, this expected monsoon is a little too late. The early heatwave with the multiple misses of soaking rain in my backyard has done its damage. I'll wait for the fall to plant again.
