  1. The smaller ponds have had coatings of ice here and there, I don' think any but the smallest were ever safe to walk on. The bigger lakes like Webster Lake only had a full thin coating after last weekend and is back to 50% open water. Other than 2012 they usually have ice enough for ice fishing for a while, last year even had ice a foot thick for a short while.
  2. That's what we get now, just Yellow pages and about the same size, even though we can just look up what we want online. Maybe there's still people out there with no computer and a house line.
  3. We down there or Southern Connecticut first warm day in March, those courses green up way before they do up here.
  4. I just want to use my snowblower at least once this year.
  5. Houses with crawl spaces are notorious for pipes freezing in this cold weather, actually had it happen to a rental house I owned, ended up insulating more and wrapped the pipes with a heating cord.
  6. Lost power from 11 to 5, had the wood stove to keep the house comfortable. Have a genny couldn't get the damn thing to start. I'll be better prepared next time I lose power.
  7. My low was -13, zero now, we just lost power, loaded the wood stove.
  8. -10 and winds are whipping, my dog was in and out in 2 minutes.
  9. Back in the October snow that caused power outages for up to a week and more, they said houses were down in the 40s, that was with night temps in the 20s so I imagine they'd go lower than that with these temps.

  12. I'm going to have to force my dog out tonight, she hates cold like this.
  13. Every time I look at the weather station it's down a degree, down to 4
  14. I was down at the Cape in the 2005 cold snap, there was ice as far as I could see, looked pretty thick too.
  15. Minus 20s already in northern Main, getting close in PF land. MesoWest Surface Weather Maps (utah.edu)
  16. Problem is we're not used to it, some years this cold wouldn't bother me, today it's chilling me to the bone. Gonna stay inside tonight by the wood stove.
  17. Was outside for 10 minutes to bring in a load of wood, getting gusty and my fingers are frozen. Not adjusted to this type of cold yet.
  18. I quickly dropped to 12, probably going to keep dropping a degree or two an hour now.
