    During a windy day last fall there was a baby owl on my wife's car, it stayed in the garage for most of the night but was gone in the morning. I wonder if the wind blew it out of its nest or blew the whole nest down.

    I had a huge family all fall, brothers, sisters' cousins cleaning up all my nuts, haven't seen many since fall.

    A foot of snow would be nice for this cold snap, my low where I live now is -16, don't think I have a prayer of touching that.

    Can't they check temps with satellites now? There has to be places colder than where a thermometer was or heat too for that matter.

    I didn't get many last year for the first time in a few years, maybe it was the late frost. They're really good but you can eat only so many off the tree, you have to can most of them and give them away.

    I remember going up north to ski in the 80s and most times the skiing was ok, but they didn't have huge packs like they have the last 20 or so years.

    Should be fun in Quebec this weekend for the winter carnival, if I ever go I'd like to hit a cold snap like we're going to have. A friend of mine went one year with below zero weather, he said they wore ski pants while outside.

    In fairness to Kevin he says winter's over and and probably think's it April.

    Yeah, takes some of the fun out it, you make a run or two then go inside, back and forth all day.

    WE went to Stratton on a cold day like that, my friend got a hot chocolate and spilled some on his ski, he bent down to wipe it off and it was already frozen.

    I worked in Springfield MA back then; the Connecticut River was frozen over for a few weeks. Ice got pretty thick from what I was told.

    I had -20 two nights in a row in my old place, a good rad spot. Experienced -35 at the Mt Washington Hotel one valentine's day weekend. That cold hurt and did funny things with the coat I was wearing.

    I used to just hear them, now I see them in the day, twice on a main road, they must be getting bold.

    Noticed that Friday when I had an appt out that way, there's seems to be a line separating winter from semi winter.

    I topped out at 50 too, let the wood stove burn out for it's mid season cleaning, may really need it next weekend.

    He's playing the winter is over in his mind using his reverse psychology thinking that will turn things around if he's not mentally invested.

    Quite a week that must have been in 1957, probably was below zero a few more nights in that stretch.

    I remember some good times in the 80's at the Beast, they did get some good storms and I remember skiing with a cast on my left hand when it was single digits. As bad as the 80's were there were some decent periods.
