  1. Too late to plant grass seed at this point. Roots won't be able to establish deep enough and will dry out in the Summer heat. Best to wait till mid/late August at this point to get that done.
  2. Suck it Winter Moths! http://www.wcvb.com/article/pesky-tree-killer-about-to-be-wiped-out-in-massachusetts/20273297
  3. It certainly depends upon ones location. If you live in a rural area that's not populated by manicured lawns, its much easier to let the lawn be what it wants to be. Once get get into the more established cities/towns it's much harder and you sort of go with the flow since you don't want to be the odd man out. I certainly don't like douse my lawn in chemicals but I do like it to be relatively green/healthy. Some weeds are acceptable but a lawn dominated by weeds is not.
  4. May 6th and I just cut the lawn for the 1st time. FML. Pre-emergent must have washed away too because the lawn is a fookin disaster of weeds.
  5. These little ****ers are the devils spawn. So I'm trying to remove them and the ****ers explode when disturbed and hundreds of seeds spray all over the place. I have another weed that seems to be a fall germinator because its already flowering. Small purple to white flower.
  6. Would imagine he checked that as well. Guy is a mechanic by trade.
  7. That too. My yard is still a disaster of leaves and debris. I managed to blow all the leaves out of the bed before sundown Saturday. Sunday was a wash with the rain and work. I need 2 of me to be able to do all the **** on my plate right now. Lucky I was at least able to fertilize a week ago. But I need to complete leave/debris cleanup, mow, edge, mulch, dethatch, kill weeds. Found out Saturday that my lawnmower isn't running again. My neighbor pulled it all apart last year and all he could determine was that it may need a new carburetor. Everything else was in good working condition and even that was clean. Plug is fine, gas is annually run dry. Just one more thing I don't need to deal with. Sucks only have a few hours a week to work in yard at best.
  8. Never have I seen so many leaves in a Spring cleanup. Flucking oaks. With work, I was only able to spend a couple hours outside. Disaster. Piles of leaves everywhere. Looks like showers moving in too. Spring cleanup ftmfl.
  9. Hopefully that wasn't too much rain too fast. Started off slow so I think fertilizer was able to break down and leach into soil.
  10. I know they are fall germinating. Swore I dropped fall treatment before. They are everywhere. Would take a day to pull them all.
  11. What are the weeds that grow in early Spring? Seems like my yard is infested with them. Symmetrical with a small with little flower. Want to say they germinate in the Fall but I did put down weed preventer in late fall last year but that seems to not have worked.
  12. The other think I would do is I go to the local farm supply and by 40# bags of alfalfa pellets. All organic material to add to the lawn.
  13. We Mag-i-Cal. http://www.jonathangreen.com/product/mag-i-cal-acidic-soil-food.html
  14. My ground was frozen this AM. I'm torn. I'm leaving Friday for 9 days so I should put down something but the lawn is a disaster and I don't have the time to spend this weekend or next doing any yard work. Work takes precedence. May have to hire someone to do it this year.
  15. Not around here. I've seen areas taken over by the clumping variety that you posted the link on. 10-20' tall and over areas of a small house lot 10-20k SF.
  16. Bamboo, awful. That **** if left unchecked will spread like a weed. I've seen groves of it around here from neglect.
  17. They're cheap, quick release fertilizers with a lot of salt content to dissolve into ground quickly. Sure, they'll green up your lawn faster but they do little to help establish deep roots which will keep your grass living longer in the long run and cheaper since you'll need less watering. You should look for a slow release fertilizer which will cost more but will promote a deeper root system.
  18. Not a fan of Scotts. I've been using Jonathan Green products over the last several years. http://www.jonathangreen.com/
  19. Disastah. Hopefully this weekend offers up some free time for me to do a cleanup. SHould drop 1st round of fertilizer. Seeing some Forsythias blooming. Crocuses are up. Daffodils are getting there. Pear trees have buds on them.
