  1. Most of today's snow stayed a stone's throw to my west, but still picked up 0.05" liquid in snow form.
  2. The debate about where not to build is a different one than how to most efficiently do a widespread mass cleanup of debris.
  3. Easier to clean up crap that's in one place than scouring the island for it. Do you want to clean up a pile of leaves that's in one pile, or rake the yard first? When you have hundreds of houses that are no longer fit for habitation (and thousands of people all wanting their houses rebuilt), that time, money and effort adds up when you have to rake the leaves first.
  4. Sure, you can't do much to prevent flooding. But everything is still in tact for personal property salvage and eventual demolition. But for the areas that didn't get storm surge, it will save hundreds of $millions
  5. The biggest takeaway is that modern building codes work.
  6. That wouldn't surprise me. So much stock is put in these models so far in advance and people get the "it won't hit here" mentality.
  7. That site shows DAB as being closed for a week, too. I wonder if that's just some default end date they put when the airport hasn't yet announced when it's reopening.
  8. That precip shield seems to be completely stationary.
  9. There are already teams out of state utility equipment and worker staging to head to Florida
  10. I've got family friends in Punta Gorda. While in the eye they posted on social media that they were OK so far. I hope that's still the case
  11. That would be coincidence, not irony, but, impressive none the less.
  12. Flying over hurricanes isn't uncommon
  13. There's a flash flood warning 5 miles to my west. Yet I picked up a measly 0.17" Just something about my microclimate I guess that these high precip events affect all areas around me but not me.
  14. Lots of red to my south and west. But will radar fill in over my house? Man this is prepping me for winter storm tracking
  15. fat PWATs predicted for my area today. Flood watch again. remains to be seen if the models whiff once again on widespread heavy rains.
  16. It never ceases to amaze me how thunderstorms can dry up over top of my house, then reform a mile up the road.
  17. Pretty big bust on that widespread flood threat yesterday by Boulder NWS
