  1. I think there are 5 high peaks in Vermont. After I finish the adk 46 I’ll be hopping over to Vermont. The New Hampshire 48 is going to take awhile to finish.
  2. Once you got above 4K feet all the trees were completely encased in snow. It was like walking through a tunnel, was so cool
  3. Was up hiking the Adirondacks today. Still 4-5 foot depths above 4K feet. About 20” or so at 2500 feet. Pretty solid winter conditions.
  4. Think I’m ganna pass on the sunrise hike, still pretty windy with occasional squalls. Going to start just before daybreak. About 20-25” snow depth where I was today at 2600 feet. Will be up around 4200 ft tomorrow.
  5. It was quite treacherous north of you guys. These systems do well for westerly favored areas
  6. @TugHillMatt The close proximity of the strong low and the associated deep moisture and lift made this a hybrid lake effect snow event. Lake enhanced snow covered a much larger area than in our typical lake effect snow events that feature very narrow bands of heavy snow. We haven’t seen this storm track in 2 years. It’s still the climo favored track and why Syracuse averages 120”+
  7. The best storms for Rochester/Syracuse are inland nor’easters with nw flow behind them. They provide synoptic snow and enough moisture behind to keep the nw flow going strong with thicker bands as opposed to arctic front nw flow which is usually very dry unless reinforced by clippers. November of 2016 rings a bell in my head as a good example of this. https://www.weather.gov/buf/lesEventArchive?season=2016-2017&event=A
  8. I appreciate this, nature, weather, and hiking are huge passions of mine and I want to look back on my death bed at all my adventures. I post most of my adventures on Instagram if you want to follow me. https://instagram.com/richardhulburd?utm_medium=copy_link
  9. Adk trail inn this time. There are a few dog friendly hotels/air bnbs/inns we pick out. Cobble mountain lodge is amazing that’s my go to place but it was all filled up.
  10. Yes he’s hiked 10 high peaks with me, not coming tomorrow but will do other shorter hikes with me. He did a 17 mile one 2 years ago and destroyed me. He never gets tired
  11. Snow followed me all day heavy snow last few hours here. Did a sunset hike thinking it would be clear.
  12. Imagine that for 2-3 days straight. That’s what our big lake effect events are like. Still like synoptic more?
  13. I’m waking up 3 am for sunrise hike tomorrow. Going to be insane watching sunrise over the horizon at this spot. The peak I’m doing is the one on the right
