This explains the winter in a nutshell

It's been a combination of not just the +NAO but the -PNA and +EPO/+WPO. All the indices have been going the wrong way. It takes a lot to go wrong to get nearly +10 temps in January. If we get one indice to go the right way, the rest don't. Right now we have a PNA ridge but the EPO is really positive.

Picked up 2.5" overnight of wet snow. Very picturesque out there.

Last one is nearing 100 pages, figured to create a new one. The theme of the winter continues, warm air everywhere! Buffalo is -17" for snowfall for the year and +8.9 for temps for January.

It's looked like that from Day 10-15 for the entire winter. Long range modeling is done for.

Those pics....are incredible. I can't believe we have so many people that have traveled there. I've been researching for the last few months but it's tough to know what to hit. We will have about 12 days in the south island. Did you bring a drone?

I have so many questions. I'm planning to stop in auckland for 1 night do the sky tower bungee jump and some island off the coast 40 minute ferry. Then fly the next day to queenstown and set up shop there for awhile. Can I stay in Queenstown for the entire duration of the trip and just leave early with rental car? Or is there another town I should stay at a few days and get an Air bnb? What was your itinerary? Maybe we can take it to DMS or if you have FB messenger?

I can't believe how cheap the flights are to hawaii. From Buffalo to the islands its like $300-400. You couldn't even drive to Kansas for that cheap. I plan to go back and this time visit Kauai.

I was going to go in March too, but it was a little cheaper in April. Usually we drive to Toronto for International flights and it's much cheaper, but the difference was so small to NZL that it didn't seem worth the extra stop. We only stop once to Auckland in Chicago. What's your itinerary? I haven't booked anything else except i know i want to spend most of the trip on the South Island. It was $3300 for 2 people round trip. Only 1 stop on the way there and 2 stops on the way back and the layovers are so short.

Just booked my flight to New Zealand, April 10-26! That country is expensive.

Still no arctic air for the lakes to make much of a difference. You need relatively cold temps to get a lake response.

Picked up 1.2" overnight, grass is nearly covered. If overnights precip was snow, I like my chances a little more for tonight. RGEM has 5-6"

The models haven't been terrible when predicting warm temps. They showed high 40s across the board 2 weeks before yesterday. They've just been terrible in predicting a pattern change. I don't think its coming.
