  1. Did this get approved? Had no idea about this. My wife would make more too and the health insurance is under me so we would actually benefit from this. I take what I said back. Looks like NYS max unemployment is $504 per week, with the $600 it would equate to $1104 per week if you qualify for maximum benefits. The New York State Department of Labor (NYSDOL) determines your weekly unemployment benefit amount by dividing your earnings for the highest paid quarter of the base period by 26, up to a maximum of $504 per week. $13,100/26=$504 So you'd need to make $52,400 per year to get the max unemployment.
  2. US arguing over $1200 stimulus payment to pay my mortgage for one month. UK: Unveiling an unprecedented intervention by the state in the British economy, finance minister Rishi Sunak told reporters that the government will cover 80% of worker salaries for at least the next three months up to a maximum of £2,500 ($2,900) a month, which is more than the average income. CANADA: The bill would give C$2,000 a month for the next four months for people who lost their job because of Covid-19. It would apply to people who are quarantined, helping a sick family member, have been laid off or have not received payment from their employer. NORWAY: After 17 days without an income, the government will step in and ensure payments of 80 per cent of the average income the person has had for the last three years (up until income level equivalent to an annual salary of around 600 000 NOK). Rights to child care benefits and sick leave have also been improved. The day after, on Tuesday, the government said they would find temporary ways of also covering the 17 days without income. Parents who have to look after their children because kindergartens and schools are closed will receive child care benefits from NAV, the Norwegian Labour and Welfare Administration. Where previously each parent to a child below the age of 12 years old could take ten days off to care for a sick child – this has been increased to 20 days and can be used by parents who now have to stay home with their children. On Tuesday March 17, the government also announced that parents will not have to pay for kindergarten and after-school-care for the duration of these institutions being closed due to the coronavirus. The kindergartens will continue to receive government funding, so as to not have to lay off any staff.
  3. Yes, but with any sickness/disease. You only get tested when you're showing symptoms. My mom went to the doctor with a bad sinus infection Jan 2019 that would not go away. 1 week later she had stage 4 cancer near her brain. There are lots of people walking around with cancer, hypertension, etc... that don't know about it. Only when people get symptoms do they go to the doctors. The mortality rate has to be based on those officially diagnosed with the virus, just like any disease is.
  4. I checked out NYS budget. 5% goes to welfare. 41% goes towards Healthcare, 26% towards education. Fix those and the budget gets a lot easier to manage.
  5. I can't stand Biden. I also can't believe Trump and Biden are the two best people we can come up with out of this country. How in the world does that even happen... I'd almost rather have Trump then Biden. The guy has early staged dementia. I'm afraid he loses it one day and bombs China or something.
  6. Those Spain numbers are increasing rapidly. A ER physician assistant friend of mine went off on social media today regarding the virus. She lives in Atlanta, says to take this very serious. Has several 30 year olds in ICU in her hospital.
  7. BREAKING: Italy reports 5,249 new cases of coronavirus and 743 new deaths, raising total to 69,176 cases and 6,820 dead https://t.co/47MXF0XUJ0
  8. My campervan got refunded without me doing anything, also the money I paid for the VISA to NZL automatically got refunded. I'm still waiting on the Flights as they technically have not been canceled. The credit card gave me provisional credit. I plan to contact both United and Air NZL to see if I can get refunded again later this week. Before they only offered 1 yr of flight credit, but many things have changed, especially in NZL 4 week total ban on travel. If I can get the money refunded from the airlines, I can cancel the dispute with the credit card. If all else fails I'll go to NZL later this year. Good to cover both basis.
  9. Live Update https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/ How many expected cases vs deaths are we expected at the end of this? Tens of millions of cases with around a million deaths?
  10. I wish I could put my thoughts into words like you do. Several retired nurses I know are being asked to come back into the workforce to help with the number of patients that are expected to come in the next few weeks. Cuomo is setting up portable mini hospitals across the state and getting as many healthcare professionals as he can to help manage them. They announced an order of 1 million masks that should be here in the next 14 days. I think he might be prepared enough to handle the number of expected patients incoming.
  11. Chinas cases are spiking again. https://www.cnn.com/2020/03/23/asia/hong-kong-coronavirus-quarantine-intl-hnk/index.html

  13. NZL went into a level 4 lockdown. Which pretty much assures I get all my money back for my trip. At least something good happened today.
  14. Cuomo is killing it. Doing a much better job than Trump is. He is letting the experts lead the way in each of their specific fields and in his news conference he is well versed in the optimal way to handle things in each industry.

  16. That's a legit wet plaster, good stuff Tug. Good send off for the winter.
  17. 5,707 new cases in NYS. 3,260 of those cases in NYC.
  18. https://www.modernhealthcare.com/politics-policy/trump-wrongly-claims-fda-approved-covid-19-drug http://www.cidrap.umn.edu/news-perspective/2020/03/trump-says-fda-fast-track-approve-covid-19-drugs I've tried having discussions with trump supporters, they are close minded and impossible to reason with. So this is my last post on the topic.
  19. Brother in law fired(with company 6 years), wife got laid off this morning in an emergency lay off. Has been with company for 7 years. This virus is going to have an impact on this country for 5-10 years at least.
  20. Well this virus just hit me hard. My wife works in bankruptcy as a paralegal. NYS canceled all foreclosures for 90 days so she just got laid off for at least a few months. She's been there for 7 years with no layoffs.
  21. 2 year limit on stock buybacks and limit on executive bonuses. Also keeping employees "to the extent possible" is tough to get around as most places in the USA have "at will" employment. We also have one of the worst workers rights in any first world country. However, I can see why it got vetoed. It will likely get passed sometime in the next few days as revisions are added. Something needs to be done. https://www.ituc-csi.org/IMG/pdf/ituc-global-rights-index-2018-en-final-2.pdf
  22. Well that's tough when you have the worst President in our countries history in office. I mean come on now... https://www.politico.com/news/2020/03/17/how-trump-shifted-his-tone-on-coronavirus-134246 What a real president says. http://historymatters.gmu.edu/d/5057/
