  1. Thousands die each year in winter related car accidents. Not to mention more prevalence of circulating bacteria and viruses in winter. Summer is definitely a safer lifestyle. Almost everyone has some sort of AC installed in their home. 84 percent of all homes in the United States have some kind of air conditioning. In fact, the US uses more air conditioning than all other nations combined. Winter months feature quite a bit more deaths then summer months. https://www.acsh.org/news/2019/07/10/more-people-die-winter-summer-14146
  2. It's very difficult to get record warmth here with a SW wind (Impossible). S/SW winds give Rochester their record temps. This wind direction is perfect for KBUF warmth.
  3. Right from the NWS "Looking through our records, the most 90+ degree days that have occurred in Buffalo in a single year was 20. This occurred back in 1955." We have a long way to go.
  4. Quite the contagious virus. This is a good dataset to see how many are asymptomatic. 97% of inmates at Texas jail have tested positive for coronavirus https://www.nydailynews.com/coronavirus/ny-coronavirus-texas-jail-nueces-20200706-bi24or6c5jcazhfu76urumhx2q-story.html
  5. Cases are going to go up as more testing is done. As long as hospitals can maintain the influx of new patients we should be fine. Deaths are still declining and rapidly.
  6. With cases reaching records highs and deaths consistently falling I do wonder if the virus is mutating to a weaker form. The next month will be very telling as absolutely no one social distanced on July 4th. 40k cases and 224 deaths so far today.
  7. For those that don't like the heat, the average temperature starts to decrease July 23rd and the days are already getting shorter.
  8. This will be the longest heat wave in Buffalos history. Already at 4 days of 90+, looks to continue until at least Friday. Hit 94 today. If the long range is correct, it will also be the warmest July on record here. Have been floating in my pool every day after work, absolutely loving it.
  9. Obviously too early to call it. But with the long range right now I think we're a lock for #1.
  10. 94 at latest update! Greater Buffalo International Airport NY Partly Cloudy 94°F
  11. So far this month we are +8.1 INSANE AVERAGE MONTHLY: 78.3 DPTR FM NORMAL: 8.1
  12. Top 10 warmest Julys 1 76.2 1921 2 76.0 1955 3 75.5 2012 4 75.3 2011 5 75.0 2005 6 75.0 1887 7 74.8 1988 8 74.7 1916 9 74.4 2018 10 74.3 1999
  13. Next week looks just as hot after a brief cooldown.
  14. pretty much the same pattern the last 10 months https://twitter.com/chris_sowers/status/1278428240760262656
  15. I would definitely recommend AC around here. Our summers are hot and especially humid near the lake. Out in the country away from water, it is not as bad with less humidity.
  16. Happy 4th everyone! 87 at Buffalo as of 1 PM. Should get close to 90 with a NE breeze.
  17. 8-10 90+ days would be so difficult here. Rochester I would almost guarantee it. With the lake erie breeze, you never know.
  18. Can't believe I missed that day! I wish there was somewhere to confirm 10 being the most 90+ days. Before the early 1940s the recording station was right on the lake which would have made it nearly impossible to hit 90 so that graph is likely correct at 10 being the max.
  19. Summer of 2018 was very warm with 6 90+ days and loads of 89s. Had potential to break the record. June-Sep averaged +3.1 which is insane for summer.
  20. We're at 2 so far this year. June 10th hit 90 and today. June also had an 89 and 2 88s. First 2 days of July had highs of 87. 90+ is very rare in Buffalo region due to the lake breeze. June finished at +.8 for the month.
  21. Tough to find any good info about 90 degree days in Buffalos history, found this chart. Looks like 10 is the max? This only goes up to 2008, but I don't think we beat 10 in the last 12 summers.
  22. The local record for the longest stretch of days in which the temperature reached or exceeded 90 degrees is seven, from July 3 to July 10, 1988 https://buffalonews.com/news/local/buffalo-flirts-with-90-degree-temps-with-longer-heat-wave-on-the-way/article_15134b08-a2cf-5f79-b19a-f693f7414714.html
