dont want to jump the gun here, but somethings telling me this winter might be singing the tune of the last 2 (at least in the nyc metro). really hoping for a turnaround for the holiday week, but we've been fooled before. i'd be very surprised to see a pattern turn around soon, i know theres been some discourse on the integrity of the dynamical mjo plots but im struggling to see how we're gonna get to 8/1/2 soon

December 2024 - Best look to an early December pattern in many a year!

op euro has been claiming this long range cool down for a few runs

really hoping this is an mjo driven wave while it goes through the warm phases and we can get something happening once it hits 7. however, we've been fooled before, and lets all hope it doesn't die out in the COD and repopulate in 4 creating a neverending feedback loop of january highs of 43 degrees

no disrespect man but @bluewavehas a wealth of knowledge to share and i would not say his responses are cherry picked

for real, i mean the models are having an incredibly difficult time keeping up with things. around mid november the beginning of december was screaming torch, but here we are. ultimately i think most things will moderate out in the long run, warm/cold/warm/cold. its just the nature of living here. obviously none of us know exactly what the winter has in store, but actually having winter type cold in the beginning of december sets a more hopeful tone for this season than years past. also the differences between the EPS and GEFS are so staggering i cant make sense of what will happen, so hopefully we can keep our fingers crossed. im hoping for a wintery feeling holiday week

im always tweaking
-
so is this about the point where we all start tweaking out or should we give it another week?
-
but the operational models are saying it might be warm 16 days from now!

fundamentally there is not one person on this forum that will determine whether it will snow or not. chances are we will see snow at some point this winter, just take it as it is and enjoy the fact it actually feels winter-y here in december

getting a little worried, remember that early november warmth in 2022? by all means lets not re-do that winter

not quite sure how breaking a record equates to new normal when normal is normal and breaking a record is not necessarily normal. looking forward to more of you this winter tho!!

12z runs seem to be backing off how warm we will really get. I'm guessing we see some over-performing numbers but there appears to be a trough moving in the area next Thursday to cool us back down to Autumn temps. Interesting, seems like models are having an increasingly difficult time this fall
