  1. Just had an hour long storm here. First big test for the new weather station. Marble hail, lighting, tropical downpour, 45-50 wind gusts. Really impressed with the readings.
  2. The governor of Iowa will finish the application for a presidential declaration on Monday due to all the damage assessment that needed to be done. Also, she spoke with both the Pres and VP and has been assured federal assistance.
  3. That is from an old DirectTV mount...I took off the dish to make room for this.
  4. It's WiFi w/solar to power batteries. Comes with a receiver which connects wireless to my router.
  5. Just installed and setup my Weatherflow Tempest the other day. Here's the link if anyone is interested: https://tempestwx.com/station/26189 Impressed so far with the performance, ease of installation/setup, app, and general usability.
  6. Agreed. We've had cold Nov and 1st half Dec, it seems, for many years in a row. I'd like to see the cold hit in 2nd half Dec and thru Jan-Mar. Hoping the teleconnections are lined up well this winter season!
  7. Post-Tropical at this point in time, don't think it had fully transitioned.
  8. Just went the the NHC site to check things out and saw this old map. How often do you see something so far north over land in Canada with tropical storm winds over Quebec City?
  9. I haven't met a single republican that would want to restrict voting from any legal citizen, save for felons. There is no evidence that a higher turnout hurts or helps either party (regarding presidential wins) as well - so it makes no sense for republicans to want restricted voting for legal citizens. On the flip side, it makes a whole lot of sense why Democrats want to allow non-citizens to vote as well as lowering the age to 16.
  10. Really nice cool morning. Got down to the low 50s for the first time in quite awhile on the lake plain.
  11. Agreed - interesting history. That last paragraph though is a totally different debate topic.
  12. I don't think it's primarily anti-science. I think it's primarily a lack of trust in the people, not the science. Data is data, people on both sides either ignore it, manipulate it, or just conveniently not mention it to support their narrative.
  13. Lol, I was coming on here this AM to post the below and say it would be cool to get some waterspout pics on the board! Thanks Buf! A SPECIAL MARINE WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 830 AM EDT... For the following areas... Lake Ontario from Mexico Bay to Sackets Harbor... At 809 AM EDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing waterspouts was located 7 nm west of Southwick Beach, or 16 nm north of Mexico Bay, moving east at 30 knots. HAZARD...Waterspouts and wind gusts to 40 knots. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Waterspouts can easily overturn boats and create locally hazardous seas. Small craft could be damaged in briefly higher winds and suddenly higher waves. Locations impacted include... Southwick Beach and Westcott Beach.
  14. Looks like some heavy showers developing now for Monroe.
  15. I agree, but because it's the only major "service" with direct competition, I think it should be run more like its competition, in fact, should be the shining example of a well-run business to keep the likes of UPS, FedEx, DHL, Amazon, etc. in-check and competitive.
  16. I'll take some more. Still dry out there if you can believe it.
  17. But the armed forces, sewers, public roads don't have private competition.
  18. Yup. Should help alleviate the drought as well:
  19. Not sure, but it's probability now...better chances for a higher total due to the active 1st half. It would be interesting to understand the global patterns (oscillations) which allowed such an active 1st half.
  20. Wow, this really happened...interesting! Delta you missed out man!!
  21. There's a deal to get the Tempest one for $229...not too much more than the Ambient WS-2902B ($170), but doesn't come with a console...just phone app. Question: Is the best place to mount these on the roof or do you put them on a pole in the middle of your yard or something? I know the anemometer should be higher up than say the rain gauge, but that's not possible in an all-in-one unit.
  22. A Met (and CoCoRaHS) reviewed it on YouTube and said it's within 10% accuracy of the device he uses for obs. Good enough for me
  23. Thinking about getting the Weatherflow Tempest Station. Seems like a legit new product with no moving parts, yet covers a lot measurements. Check it out... https://shop.weatherflow.com/
