Always fun getting silver dollar sized flakes. I love it when you can look outside when it is dark and still see the flakes because they are so big!!

Awesome

The problem is your expectation for Clinton Twp MI are not correctly aligned with reality. You are looking for an event that would be a historic/record breaking event. Then you say because this record breaking event doesn't happen this winter sucks or that wasn't a real storm!! It has nothing to do with contentment. You can buy either Bud Light or Sam Adams at a store anywhere in the USA. Weather can't be bought and every location has specific weather patterns. If you are not going to move, you need to accept where you are and enjoy what you do get. Otherwise you are always going to basically hate the weather!!! EDIT: I know this is the B&M thread. B&M away, though I will defend Josh! You can ask Harry and Josh and some others on here. Years ago I sounded similar. I am just offering some friendly advice that has truly helped me. Not saying that I don't occasional get frustrated with the weather and will do some B&M; however; I do enjoy the weather a TON more now and I even get excited for the Chicago group (or any other poster) when they are getting blasted and I am not.

Exactly. We will have great ones and even worse ones. In 50+ years I have never seen a winter identical to any other. Going to the UP and seeing Superior is always worth it no matter the weather

Love your last statement. Exactly why I moved where I did in SE MI!!! Lost major$$ on my last house doing it too. This area gets the most snow in SE MI, greats thunderstorms (but not always) and I get to keep my kind of high paying job . If desperate for 2-3'+ event I can go to Buffalo or UP. If I want more/bigger t-storms I can storm chase and even travel to OV/MW.

We definitely have lacked good nocturnal/LLJ events in recent years. There was one really good event last year but it was down here and not up your way. -

Did you have a t-storm year last year? After the dry June it changed an became active here as we were generally on the edge of the heat dome last year. Yes I do recall 1995 -
Do you dream of things that are a guarantee or dream of things that are infrequent and really want them???

You have to go back to 1915 with a max high of 89 degrees, at DTW, to be equal or less than last years 90F max at DTW. -

I think it was JB that says "Enjoy the weather, it's the only weather you got" Took me a few years and that has finally sunk in. I can't change it, make it do what I want but I can enjoy it!! I will say this is MOSTLY true for me now!!

It was like they were falling in slow motion at times.

I am not disagreeing with Wayne and Macomb Counties for sure. I moved away from Macomb several years ago and have never looked back!! My area (in the so called hills of SE MI) is definitely better than Chicago with 12"+ storms. If I lived in Macomb again I just might be posting the exact same as you.

Kind of wrong in that we didn't even get the 4 more weeks of winter let alone 6 weeks Note: I am actually getting very light snow right now as I type this

Awesome these past few mornings!! Temps low 20s and sunny!! Wish I wasn't in the office today. I would take the dog for a wonderful morning walk like I have the past few days.

Well there is always March right

This is like the Harry and my debate of old!! Harry was right as the end result is simple if you want truly big dogs => Lake Effect, Mountains or EC. Detroit and Chicago are not epic snowstorm destinations!! The Chicago / Detroit debate for me is easy: April => June I would choose Chicago weather. July => March I would choose Detroit weather. March is debatable. While this is not for everyone would be my preference.

Big time congrats. Definitely infinitely more important!!

I am not denying it is warm or data you have presented for these locations. I am expecting a lot more warmth records to fall in the years to come. But the statement of this being 1 in 1000 years is typical fear mongering type tactic. We are missing a good 800+ years of identical daily/moment by moment data to make this statement. In recent years these type of statements have been a lot more popular to use in the Meteorological world and many times it is disingenuous and intentionally used for as headline grabbing tactics.

I know what your saying but you know it wouldn't work out as desired. Get to much warm early and we end up with blossom damage and/or honey bee loss. So I don't mind going back to a cold pattern. Just hope it isn't dry and cold. Let's have some fun as it cools off again.

That March 1996 was much bigger locally (I was living in Macomb County at that time). Thundersnow included!! That was a great storm!! I recall the forecast was rain ending with 1-2" of slop. 12"+ later in local areas in central Macomb county to Port Huron. You are missing a lot of great April storms unless that is just DTW area.

Just went through a MJO well into phase 6-7, strong +NAO & strong +AO. Highly predicable warm start to the month.

Yeah it is becoming less and less of an event worth watching that is for sure!! -
My area still is finding a way to get near with mostly above average snowfall winters, with only 16/17 being a stinker being well below average, in the past 10 years. I use the full average not just 30 year averages.
